UniMAP Willing To Help Boost Role Of RELA CMT
Datuk Prof Emeritus Dr Kamarudin Hussin PAUH PUTRA (ARAU), 22 Nov (Bernama) -- Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) is prepared to provide its expertise to help the Malaysian Volunteers Department (RELA) to strengthen its Crisis Management Team (CMT).
Vice-chancellor Datuk Prof Emeritus Dr Kamarudin Hussin said as a technology, innovation and engineering-based institution of higher learning, its expertise could be applied to provide service during a disaster, like flood and fire.
This is as UniMAP has the expertise in technology and knowledge in handling of the students' RELA Brigade (RELASIS) which could develop technology for volunteer works, he said after the commissioning of UniMAP and Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) RELASIS yesterday.
He advised RELASIS members to maintain their discipline.
Earlier, RELA director-general, Datuk Kamariah Mohd Noah, in her speech, told RELASIS members to not join the brigade simply to fulfill their co curriculum requirement.
RELASIS will be effective if members understand the concept of volunteerism, besides fostering national unity and to be tolerant, he she added.
She said RELA now has 2.9 million members and 1.17 million of them are youth.
Also present at the event were Perlis RELA director Abd Halim Abdullah and UUM Student Affairs Department director Dr Mohd Dino Khairi Shariffuddin.
