Happy 2016 Independence Day

Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh,

Salam Ilmu, Keikhlasan, Kecemerlangan UniMAP

MERDEKA! MERDEKA! MERDEKA!......Alhamdulillah, we have been celebrating independence for 59 years and we will also celebrate Malaysia Day on  16th of September. Praise Allah Azza Wajalla for still blessing us with peace, prosperity and tranquility.

However, albeit the prosperity achieved, we must never take for granted the sacrifices made by our elders towards achieving independence. In the process of independence, all races in Malaysia have stand united and I believe that the spirit can be maintained until today. Without unity from all races, it is not impossible that we can lose our hard fought independence. I urge everyone in UniMAP to always maintain this harmonious relation and not easily influenced by certain agenda intended to damage this relationship.

I would like to also use this opportunity to welcome our new degree students for the 2016/2017 Academic Session whom have registered on 28th of August. We in UniMAP would like to give our warmest welcome to all of you.

Please bear in mind that your parents are hoping for your success. Please cherish the opportunity given and do not take it for granted.  Strive for excellence and let that be your gift towards your parents.

On behalf of the university, I hope that you will be determined, focused, and after you have tried your best, pray that Allah Aza Wajalla will grant you success in your study. InsyaAllah, you will be successful students.

Let’s hope that Allah Azza Wajalla will bless our effort and ease our endeavor for success..

Wabillahittaufiq Walhidayah, Wassalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh.

Time flies, and now we are in the year of 2016, where everthing is fast paced. As an individual, we need to stay positive and also to continuously making effort to improve and to move forward.

Looking back over the years, I am sure each of us has several things that we wished to improve on, from old habit or negative behavior to a whole new resolution. However, the most important thing to note is when to start and how to make it all happen.

UniMAP, too will start 2016 with a new resolution to move at part with seven key performance indexes (KPI) set by the Ministry of Education (KPT).

In response to new challenges, UniMAP is commited to achieve the KPI through all the initiatives that has been arranged and planned in order to face the challenging 2016. Cooperation and commitment from all is vital to achieve the university's aims and goals. In the beginning of this New Year, i am hoping for us to put our hands together and make it happen.

My hopes and wishes will be to all UniMAP staff and academicians, let's work together to positively change our attitude, mindset, habits and working practices for the better. This is to ensure UniMAP is still able to always play its role in educating our nation's gems.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE 10th  UniMAP CONVOCATION GRADUATES

Assalamualaikum W.B.T

Alhamdulillah, the 10th University Malaysia Perlis Convocation held on the 19th  to 21st  September had successfully ended.  UniMAP has successfully supplied ten cohorts of graduates for the nation’s human capital needs.

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all the 2,075 graduates who have successfully graduated at this convocation. I wish you all success in life.

UniMAP has existed for 14 years, and this convocation has paved history as it was held at Dewan Ilmu for the first time and, for the first time too, five sessions were conducted. My heartiest congratulations also goes to the entire secretariat who had worked tirelessly to ensure the smooth operation of this convocation.

This month also host another important event as the 2015 Public University Autonomous Readiness Audit (AKA) will be conducted by experts and auditors from The Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC).

The purpose of the audit is to award autonomy, which is the hand over of responsibilities to the university, in order to make effective decisions in achieving excellence in the higher education agenda by upholding the principles of integrity and accountability.

Among the aspects that will be audited are Institutional Governance, Finance, Human Resources and Academic. Let us pray together for the smooth running of this audit process and hope that UniMAP will be awarded with the autonomous status.

Before ending my message, I would like to thank the UniMAP Board of Directors and everyone from UniMAP for trusting me with the title of Professor Emeritus at the Special Convocation recently. I truly believe that this is not the result of my efforts alone, but it is the contributions of everyone from UniMAP in upholding the name of the university that we all care about. Only Allah Aza Wajalla can repay all of you.

DMNC July 2015

DMNC July 2015 (in conjunction with Eid Celebration)

May the peace be upon you; salam ilmu keikhlasan kecemerlangan UniMAP

My brothers and sisters who are blessed by Allah Aza wajalla all,

As we are fast approaching the Shawwal celebration 1436H, let us be grateful towards the Almighty for this chance to celebrate Eid in peace and harmony.

The Eid celebration symbolizes as our victory against enemies including those within ourselves such as lust. We fight to refrain from hunger and thirst and also to devote ourselves in religious acts to God in order to be a better servant.

Despite the excitement we will be in, let us not get carried away with the celebration. Prior to your departure, please ensure the security and safety of your residential homes and that your vehicles are in good condition. Inform your neighbours of your absence and also report to the nearest police station in order to alert those on patrolling duty in your area.

When driving, drive with extra caution. Always be alert and patient in any situation encountered while driving. Please think of those who are waiting for you at home. Let us ensure that our return is greeted with joy, not tears. As the saying goes, “Sesal kemudian tiada gunanya” (regretting later is useless).

As we are waiting in excitement for the arrival of Shawwal, let us not forget those who are in need of help and support (asnaf) in order to be able to join in the Eid celebration. Therefore, let us carry out our responsibilities in paying the tithe this coming Eid.

Therefore as the Vice Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP),  I, Datuk Prof. Dr. Kamarudin Hussin and all, would like to take this opportunity to wish you a Happy Hari Raya, Maaf Zahir dan Batin to all brothers and sisters.

Biar Hati Sejernih Air

Jangan Pula Dipenuhi Lumpur

Kalau Salah Belum Berakhir

Moga Diampun Dengan Rasa Syukur

Jika Budi Dipenuhi Ikhlas

Jangan Ia Disulam Tuba

Jika Ada Salah Belum Dibalas

Pohon Keampunan Di Hari Raya

Biar Amarah Disunting Senyum

Ibarat Pekerti Disulam Kasih

Pinta Dihalal Makan Dan Minum

Moga Rezeki Tidak Tersisih

Sekali lagi, pesanan saya…,

‘Jadikan Syawal ini, Syawal yang dinanti, bukanlah Syawal yang ditangisi’

“Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Maaf Zahir dan Batin”.

DMNC August 2015

DMNC August 2015

Assalamualaikum W.B.T

Alhamdulillah and our gratitude to Allah the Almighty for the opportunity to able to address you once more in the August edition of From The Vice Chancellor's Desk column.

This issue, I would like to share some thoughts on the prudent and ethical use of social media. Personally I am saddened by the misuse of social websites in the community which today is at a worrying state.

I am certain all of you are aware by viewing, reading and hearing of the harsh critiques and comments made by a small number of the populace on national issues.

Some websites were created for the purpose of blind accusations, ridicules, lambastes and insults without checking the sources on the matter. Everyone employs Facebook, Whatsapp, Instagram and Twitter to express dissatisfaction to other parties without thinking of the effects of such acts.

I feel that the existence of this group burgeoned from a group of individuals who are dissatisfied and ungrateful with what they have enjoyed all this while. For them any measures taken by the government or government agency is wrong. Even more disappointing is when they place full blame squarely on the government for any unfortunate incidents.

I would like to call for everyone to think for a minute on whether the accusations on social media are true. Are they backed by facts, proof and clear justifications? Is it fair for us to point fingers blaming the government while the society has also clearly contributed to the issue.

Logically, what could the benefits be from such acts? Accusing only the government of wrongdoings? It is undeniable that in every organisation there are administrative weaknesses, but please do comment on them with prudence so the parties involved would be able to eliminate their weaknesses and increase the quality of their service.

I am mystified by how easily and swiftly we make assumptions before we investigate in detail what really happened. This culture of finger-pointing and blaming others, as well as making conclusions based on hearsay and social media rumour is unhealthy, unethical and unprofessional.

This clearly displays the lack of knowledge and wisdom of the individuals involved. It also reveals as if these parties have a hidden agenda to continue pummelling and dismantle the government's good image. This is because these groups and individuals take immediate advantage of an issue or a tragedy, making conclusions and assumptions while wrongfully accusing the government.

If we are to be sincere in helping, we should cooperate together with the government to weather conflicts and calamities. What harm is there for us to comment and critique tactfully, sincerely and maturely.

Wassalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Taala Wabarakatuh.
