There are several types of transportation services in Perlis.
Air There is no direct air service to Perlis. The nearest airport is at Alor Setar.. Students have to fly into Alor Setar from Kuala Lumpur and from there take a taxi to Kangar. The drive takes about 45 minutes
Note: A the Alor Setar Airport, the normal taxi fareto Kangar is approximately RM 50 per vehicle.
Train
There is a regular daily train service between Kula Lumpur and Padang Besar. The train will stop at the Arau station in Perlis. One will then take a taxi to Kangar. (Arau Train Station, 04 – 986 1225)
Taxi
There are two main taxi stations in Kangar. The Kangar Taxi Station is located next to Express Bus Station besides the KWSP Building. (Contact No: 04-9777 7066), and the other taxi station is located opposite The Store Shopping Mall (Contact No: 04-976 5375).
a. Bus
There are two bus terminals in Kangar, the local bus terminal and the intercity bus terminal.
The local bus terminal is located at Jalan Tun Abdul Razak (next to Store and Pejabat Pos Besar Kangar). It provides bus services to most of the small towns in Perlis. Such as :- 1. Kaki Bukit – The Mining town near the Dark Cave 2. Padang Besar – Malaysia – Thailand Border town 3. Arau – Perlis Railway station. For Arau, you can take the ‘Kodiang’ bus and as the driver to drop you at the railway station. 4. Kuala Perlis – The jetty to Langkawi Island.
As Perlis is a rather small state, travel distance within the state is short.

The Intercity bus terminal is located at Jalan Bukit Lagi next to the KWSP building.. There are bus services from here to most of the major cities in Malaysia and even to Singapore. Ferry to Langkawi
Kuala Perlis, the coastal town in Perlis is the main gateway to the famous resort island Langkawi. You can easily take a ferry from here the island.
Eating out in Perlis is a real gastronomic adventure. Restaurants are found almost everywhere in Kangar. Halal (Muslim), non-halal (non-Muslim) and halal-fast food are readily available.

Malay Food Restaurants or stalls serving Malay food can be found nearby the Kangar Bus Station and next to the Store in the middle of Kangar. Many others are located along the main roads out of Kangar.
Anjung Keli, a very popular Malay restaurant serving local dishes. It is located nearby Sekolah Syed Putra and the Perlis Teachers College.
Laksa Kak Su Kuala Perlis is best known for its ‘laksa beras’ (rice noodles in fish gravy and ‘Pulut Udang’ (gulitinous rice with shrimp paste). The outlet is located at No 97, Jalan Siakap 1, Kuala Perlis. Pekan Kuala Pelris, besides Haffah grocery shop behind CIMB bank.
Indian Food Restoran Nasi Kandar Pokok Petai, Mata Ayer. You can enjoy ‘Roti Canai’ and ‘Nasi Kandar’ (curry rice) for breakfast.
Nasi Kandar Yasmeen, Arau. Located nearby the C-Mart ShoppingComplex, Arau. They serve Nasi Kandar, Roti Canai, Tandoori Chicken , Honey Chicken and Curry.
Nasi Kandar Abdul Halim, Kangar. Located next to KWSP Kangar building. They are well known for Nasi Kandar, Roti Canai, Capati and Tandoori Chicken.

There are also two Secret Recipe in Perlis, one in Kangar at No 275, Jalan Baru, Taman Pengkalan Asam, Kangar (close to the School of Business Innovation and Technopreneurship) and another at 11, Persiaran Putra TImur 1, Jeti Pelabuhan, Kuala Perlis.
Kopitiam is located next to the KWSP building in Kangar. It serves local favourite such as fried rice and noodles. It is also a popular place for western food.
b) Non-Halal Food
Kow Ping Restaurant is located at Jalan Bukit Lagi near the KWSP building. Serve Chicken Rice and Kuey Teow.
Coffee and Food Restaurant, CCS Embassi at Jalan Bukit Lagi. Located next to the Ten Ten Supermarket.
Mahkota Restaurant is one of the cheaper restaurants located behind the Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) building. They serve Mee, Laksa, Mee Jawa and etc.
Tai Teong Restaurant is located nearby to the KWSP building. They serve Nasi Goreng (Fried Rice) , Noodles and Kuey Teow.
Friendly Restaurant is nearby the KWSP building. They serve Noodles, Kuey Teow and Seafood.
c) Fast Food (Halal Food)
There are four Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) Chain stores in Perlis. Two in Kangar (located at Jalan Bukit Lagi and opposite Kayangan Square at Jalan Penjaran which is operated 24 hours), one in Kuala Perlis (opposite the jetty to Langkawi) and the other one in Arau (Nearby the C-Mart Complex).
Pizza Hut is located nearby the KWSP Building and is opposite to the Kangar’s KFC outlet.
Domino’s Pizza and Secret Recipe are located near UniMAP’s PPIPT Complex
d) Seafood
Kuala Perlis is famous for its seafood. There are numerous restaurants serving seafood there.
Chinese Restaurant
Hai Thien Restaurant, Kuala Perlis. Located nearby the jetty to Langkawi. Some of the most popular dishes are Stuffed Dough Sticks/ Crullers, Yau Char Kwai with Mayonaise, Thai_style Steamed Fish (Hokkien call ‘Siam Chui’), Sha Po Tauhu, Kam Heong Mantis Prawns, etc.
Malay Restaurant
Medan Ikan Bakar, Kuala Perlis. Seafood is a very popular food in Perlis especially in Kuala Perlis. Ikan Bakar (grilled fish) is grilled with special hot sauce. It is located opposite to Putra Brasmana Hotel nearby the jetty to Langkawi Island. Some of the popular seafood are grilled Fish (ikan Bakar) , seafood Tom Yam , batter-fried Squids with Sweet Chilli Sause, etc.
