DMNC New Year Greetings 2013
Alhamdulillah, I am grateful to the Almighty for giving me a chance to say a few words for us to ponder upon in building up our beloved UniMAP.
In these first few days of the new year, I would like to wish all of you many happy returns. I must say that time flies very fast, and little do we realise that 2012 has already left us. The journey we took last year has been a series of valuable lessons that I hope we can draw upon as we pursue our dreams in 2013.
If we had made mistakes last year, do not despair. Instead, use them to move forward. In order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure. Indeed, what distinguishes a successful person and a failure is her determination and perseverance. As the famous Thomas Alva Edison said, "Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time ".
The year 2012 has reached its end. Over the period of time, many successes as well as bitter sweet memories we went through. But we managed to overcome all of that together. This all is the result of the efforts of every UniMAP staff who are committed in the performance of the task entrusted, without the relentless efforts and despair. I would like to say millions of thanks and congratulations. Without the cooperation of all staff, I believe the success we have right now is not to happen. Alhamdulillah, we are respected by the public, especially much older universities.
If last year we are proud of the Sedekad Gemilang UniMAP age, hence it is appropriate this year we opened a new chapter with a higher spirit. I together with the management of UniMAP has outlined various plans for us to execute together this year to raise again the name of our beloved university. Of course, the plan outlined is not perfect if there is no involvement of total staff UniMAP regardless of rank and position. From that, I hope every citizen to come forward to play a proper role. Indeed, the commitment and involvement of all campus will help achieve the desire to sculpt UniMAP name as among the best in the region.
If we look back to our successes in and outside of the country that we gained from January to December 2012, quite a big number. To name a few, our young researchers succeed at the International Exhibition for Young inventors (IYIE 2012), Thailand: Malaysia Technology Expo (MTE) 2012; MURoC 2012; Exposition on Islamic Innovation (i-INOVA) 2012: 37th International Invention Show (INOVA 2012), Croatia; Seoul International Invention Fair Invention Fair (SIIF) 2012, and the latest in World Inventor Award Festival (WIAF) 2012, South Korea and many other successes.
In the sports field too we are not left behind when we won overall championat the 40th Golf Tournament Between Higher Education Institutions (IPTA) Malaysia: Overall Champion for the fifth time in a row in Sukum to 37 at Universiti Utara Malaysia, and most recently, we won Five Olympic tennis gold for Higher Education Institutions (SUKIPT) 2012, last November.
Congratulations to all of you who have managed to bring UniMAP’s name, whether locally or abroad.
However, I would like to remind that we must not feel too comfortable with what we have accomplished so far. This is because, the success will go away if we fail to maintain it. Therefore, let us strive harder to achieve better success in the future.
I would like to inform you that His Royal Highness Tuanku Syed Putra Faizuddin Ibni Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail had spoken during last National Identity Enhancement Course Series III 2012. His Royal Highness wants us to develop a robust strategy outlined that all plans will be achieved and not simply talk the talk. He also wanted the academics to produce high-impact research and the main reference to the community and the nation. UniMAP researchers should conduct research earnestly, which can lead to producing the country’s "nobel laureate".
I am concerned on things commanded by His Royal Highness Tuanku Chancellor, and called for all academic staff to instill new year resolution to further enhance high-impact research that can benefit the community and the nation. Each engineering lecturer should produce at least two papers published in high impact journals, or four papers published in the proceedings of each year beginning this year. Lecturer in the field of business will have to produce at least one book a year in an effort to increase the number of university writing in Scopus or ISI Thompson - Reuters.
Let us together realize a better future for UniMAP. Publication of high quality and quantity paperworks is not a dream, but it is possible if we are willing to plan carefully and work hard to achieve them. Indeed, the best days still lie ahead of us, and not already live in the annals of history.
I hope everything that has been planned for this year will be carried out earnestly in order to achieve a desirable mission.
