11 Asian Nations Teams To Battle It Out!

Arau , November 2 - A total of 11 teams from nine countries are competing in the Asian University Woodball Championship (AUWC) 2013 which will commence tonight until the 5th of November at the Sports Complex of Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP).


According to the Director of AUWC cum the Director of UniMAP Sports Centre, Afizal Abu Othman, every team has undergone their final training before the championship begins this evening.


"Training starts as early as 8 AM and ends at 4 PM to prepare the athletes for the actual match at 8 PM tonight," he said.


He added that each team will be competing at two different venues, namely UniMAP Woodball Course and also at the pitch of UniMAP’s Syed Sirajuddin Areeb Putra Sports Complex, each providing 24 and 12 fairways.

"For the 24 and 12 fairways, each contains eight and four fairways of the par 3, par 4 and par 5," he said.


The participating countries are Mongolia, Chinese Taipei, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, China, Hong Kong, India and Malaysia as the respective host.


“All the countries sent one team respectively except for Malaysia and Thailand. The two countries are placing their hopes on two teams each," he said.


However, the other two countries, Japan and Indonesia had withdrawn from the championship at the last minute.
