11,450 UniMAP Students Receive BB1M

Kangar, March 13 - More than 11,000 students of Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) received the 1 Malaysia (BB1M) book voucher with a total value of RM 2,862,500.

The recipients of the vouchers were headed by the UniMAP Student Representative Council (MPP) when UniMAP Vice-Chancellor, Datuk Prof Dr Kamarudin Hussin presented a replica of the voucher to the President of the MPP, Farizah Abdul Rahman, as a launching gimmick of the distribution of BB1M during the  Weekly Gathering with the Vice-Chancellor in Kubang Gajah, today.

Farizah said that BB1M  is very beneficial to them as the increased burden in terms of cost of living may be reduced if books that they need could be obtained through this voucher.

"On top of that, the vouchers can also increase our interest in reading and it is now a must to buy books in order to utilise this voucher.

"My friends and I hope that BB1M will still be given to students in the future since  reference books, especially those related to engineering are quite expensive now," she said.

The Education Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin through his address for BB1M expressed his gratitude that the BB1M Program can continue to ease the burden of purchasing academic reading materials to 1.3 million pre-university and higher education institutions (IPT) students.

He said that the implementation of this program will benefit students studying full-time and part-time in higher education institutions in the country with each person given a voucher worth of RM250 and the vouchers are gradually being distributed to the IPT starting mid January 2015 and are distributed to students on 2nd March.

UniMAP received a total of 57.250 vouchers from the Ministry of Education (MOE) involving 11,450 students and will begin to distribute them to all students in stages starting next week according to school of studies.
