115 UniMAP Research Technologies Patented

9 January. Pauh Putra – A total of 115 of Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) research technologies have been patented and copyrighted.

UniMAP Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research and Innovation) Prof. Dr. Abdul Hamid Adom said that from 2009 to December 2014 there was an increase in the number of research products that have been patented and copyrighted.

“This number is expected to increase in line with the university’s efforts to inculcate research and innovation among lecturers,” he said during his speech at the Opening Ceremony of the Commercialisation Seminar “From Research to Commercial Value at UniMAP” at the Perpustakaan Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra (PTSFP) auditorium at the UniMAP Main Campus yesterday.

Besides patenting and copyrighting, two of UniMAP’s research technologies have been commercialised while three other products have been commercialised via the UniMAP-MTDC-NCIA Symbiosis Programme which focuses on biotechnology and agriculture.

The commercialisation seminar, which was attended by 100 UniMAP lecturers and researchers, fielded two speakers, namely Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research and Innovation) Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) Prof. Ir. Dr. Mohd Jailani Mohd Noor and Dato’ Ghazali Dato’ Mohd Yusoff, Executive Chairman of Nusantara Technologies Sdn. Bhd.

During the ceremony he also launched UniMAP Innovation Month 2015 to uplift UniMAP’s effort in the field of research and innovation, technology transfer and commercialisation.

“Furthermore, a myriad of programmes have been arranged for the whole of January which includes Commercialisation Seminar, Research Talk, Grant Writing Workshop, Book and Journal Writing Workshop and the UniMAP Research and Innovation Expo,” he said.
