SUKIPT : UniMAP Finish Fourth Overall in SUKIPT

SHAH ALAM ,February 16 - Universiti Malaysia Perlis ( UniMAP ) finish in 4th place overall in Kejohanan Sukan Institusi Pengajian Tinggi (SUKIPT) 2014  with 15 gold medal, six silver and eight bronze medal.

UniMAP wins their gold thru six events namely track with seven gold , three silver and five bronze ; tennis ( three gold medal ) ; woodball (three gold , three silver and two bronze medals ) ; petanque and karate do with one gold gold medal each and lawn ball (one bronze medal) .

UniMAP’s Vice Chancellor, Brig . Jen . Prof Datuk Dr . Kamarudin Hussin said , although it failed to maintain the third position overall in this edition , but the achievement of athletes UniMAP duly proud .

According to him, the competition is tougher from other universities taking part in SUKIPT especially private universities; five of the best position is adequate.

" In terms of achievement of participant  showed this year was very striking improvement , evidenced when Universiti Malaya ( UM ) bypasses UniMAP in final day of tournament besides achievement from  two private universities (Sunway University and Taylors University ) put themselves in the succeeding in top 10 list .

" The number of  medal won by UniMAP also decreasing  this year compare to last year  which is 17 gold medal , but with improved performance in various sports events , UniMAP wins medal in six events  compare to only three in the last year , " he said .

SUKIPT 2014 tournaments curtain closes today with Universiti Teknologi Mara ( UiTM ) won the overall champion position than at Universiti Putra Malaysia ( UPM ) with 64 gold , 44 silver and 34 bronze medals while UPM collected 53 gold , 31 silver and 35 bronze medals .

Third place also belonged pingat UM with 16 gold , 11 silver and 17 bronze medals .

Closing ceremony is officiate by Education Minister II , Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh in Dewan Agong Tuanku Canselor in UiTM .
