UniMAP Receives a Working Visit From Kedah Science and Innovation EXCO

Pauh Putra, March 6 - Kedah State Exco, Puan Norsabrina Mohd Noor made a working visit to UniMAP, here today in the establishment of long life learning center focused on research and postgraduate learning.

She is the Science and Innovation cum Communications, Information Technology and High Technology Exco of Kedah.  The visit was done after her meeting on Research and Training Centre for Continuous Education (RETRACE) that will be established in Kulim High Tech Park (KHTP).

Vice-Chancellor of UniMAP, Datuk Prof. Dr. Kamarudin Hussin said RETRACE goal-setting is intended to embrace continuous learning and research activities among the KHTP and UniMAP itself.

"In addition, the establishment of RETRACE can also strengthen the activities of higher education and research cooperation between UniMAP and industry partners, especially in KHTP.

"Hence, this could speed up the development of KHTP citizens towards an industrial research park which will also benefit UniMAP and other industrial counterparts in the future," he said.

Also present at the meeting and the visit were acting President of Kulim Technology Park Corporation (KTPC), Haji Annuar Mohd Safar, Assistant Director of the State Economic Planning Unit (EPU ) Norfazni Mustafa, Kulim Industrial Tenant Association Secretariat ( KITA) and Silltera (M) Sdn Bhd , Nor Asmahan Othman , Manager of Ambience UniMAP, Dr Yufridin Wahab and other UniMAP Heads of Department

Earlier, Norsabrina said Kedah state government expressed the hope that RETRACE will materialize in accelerating the research and postgraduate studies in KHTP.

"In line with the Kedah Transformation Lab 2013 which stated the need to increase the percentage of industry workforce with postgraduate degree is in accordance with the establishment of RETRACE.


"In addition, UniMAP is the only institution of higher learning (IPTA) which has operating centers and related expertise which has been well received by the industrial community since 2002, thus boosting the technology park to a status of Industrial Research Park , "he said.

The establishment of  RETRACE also involves a collaboration with  Kedah State Government , the Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA), KPTC, KITA and other participating industry partners in KHTP which offer Master of Science (MSc) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

Programs offered are in the fields of electronics, microelectronics, computers, communications, mechatronics, materials, manufacturing, electrical and bioprocess whereas for masters program are mixed mode and course work.
