15 EYREC Products From UniMAP Win AYIE 2015 Awards

Kuala Lumpur, 23 May – Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) via ENVEX Young Researcher Club (EYREC) won six gold, seven silver and two bronze medals at the Asian Young Inventors Exhibition 2015 (AYIE) which was held during the 26th International Invention Innovation Exhibition (ITEX) 2015.

The medals were won by UniMAP's young researchers below 20 years of age and consisted of UniMAP students and students of UniMAP's foster schools.

UniMAP Vice Chancellor Brig. Jeneral Datuk Prof. Dr. Kamarudin Hussin said that EYREC submitted 13 research products from UniMAP students and three products from UniMAP's foster schools.

“We received two products from Sekolah Kebangsaan Sena (SK Sena) and one product from Sekolah Menengah Sains Tuanku Syed Putra (SMSTSP).

“All 13 products by UniMAP students succeeded in winning awards, while SK Sena and SMSTSP each contributed a bronze and a silver medal respectively, ” he said.

For him, this participation was to increase the students' self-motivation and love for science and technology.

“At the same time, the participation also supports the nation's intent to generate more young researchers at a global level.

“In fact, this is also in accordance with the vision of the Prime Minister who wishes to create more glocal engineers, which are engineers who are able to think globally and act locally,” he said.

For the record, during ITEX 2015, UniMAP scored a triumphant victory when all of its 60 research products won awards thus maintaining 100 percent awards as the previous year.

During the exhibition that was held from 21 to 23 May 2015 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), the UniMAP research delegation scored 18 gold, 31 silver and 11 bronze out of 665 medals that were offered.

ITEX 2015, organised by Malaysian Invention and Design Society (MINDS), was held for the 26th time, contesting 1000 research products as entries from more than 20 countries in 23 categories.
