Malam Kilauan Cahaya 2016 Enlivens The Perlis Weekend
Arau, 21 May – Over 10,000 visitors flooded into the Arau Palace grounds to brighten the Malam Kilauan Cahaya (Night of Glittering Lights) 2016 that began here last night.
A drizzle failed to keep visitors from arriving as early as 9 PM to watch the cultural show, colourful decorative lights, Royal Gallery and the fireworks display on the first day.
Visitor Syafawani Shaffi, 25, said that the annual programme gave the chance for the people of Perlis to visit the palace grounds.
“This types of events should be continued to be carried out to provide the opportunity for the community, the youth and children to view the palace up close and to learn about the history of the state's royal institution.
“Besides that, this event which takes place over the weekend allows citizens of this state and its neighbours to enjoy themselves over the weekend while being entertained,” she said during the interviewed.
Another visitor, Tan Hooi Lang, 52, said that this was the fourth time he attended the event and did not mind the 45 minute commute from Jitra.
“Distance is not an obstacle for me to enjoy myself here with my friends, and to take photos for posterity's sake.
“Despite the erratic weather and rain tonight, I found that many visitors took the opportunity to visit with their family and friends, which shows that this is a worthwhile programme for the state of Perlis and its neighbours,” he said.
Malam Kilauan Cahaya 2016 is an annual event organised by Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) with the cooperation of the Office of the Duli Yang Maha Mulia Tuanku Raja Perlis which is held in conjunction with His Royal Highness' 73rd Birthday Celebration.
The event was also further enlivened by a lucky draw, magic show, yo-yo and rollerblade demonstration by The Knight Bladerz.
Previously, the Raja Muda Perlis, Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail and the Raja Puan Muda Perlis, Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Tuanku Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil graced the event with their presence to mingle with visitors.

The cheques were presented by the Director General of the Social Welfare Department (JKM) Malaysia Dato’ Zulkiply Ramli for the amount of RM 4380 and by Deputy Director General of Operations for the Department of National Unity and National Integration Malaysia Abdul Halim Omar for RM 2400 during the event.
