300 Students Enliven UniMAP Chinese New Year Celebrations 2016

Kangar, 8 May 2016 – A joyous atmosphere permeated the Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (SJKC) Sin Min, Pauh school hall last night when 300 students and visitors thronged the hall for the 2016 Chinese New Year Celebrations last night.

Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) Deputy Vice Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) Prof Madya Dr. Mohd Fo’ad Sakdan said that Chinese New Year celebrations in Malaysia are quite unique.

“It's uniqueness is in how it is celebrated through a multitude of creative activities based on local elements of Malaysian society.

“Each year, the Chinese New Year celebrations are organised by different students who are appointed as the Chinese New Year Programme Secretariat,” he stated.

The appointment of different students provide opportunities for students to gain experience in organising events.

He further decleared that the organisation of the programme is not merely for the assembly of the UniMAP community, but rather to express and explore the Malaysian perspective and the uniqueness of the Chinese culture.

He is certain that besides strengthening relations among students and staff members, this celebration will also help produce holistic graduates with entrepreneurial skills as delineated by the First Shift of the Malaysian Education Development Plan (Higher Education).

“This is because by organising these programmes, students develop stamina and enterprising spirit to be able to realise a planned event and to implement it with full efforts.

“Therefore, these students would indirectly develop discipline concerning expertise and skills (Knowledge), ethics and morals (Character) and appropriate behaviour, reasoning and civil literacy (Culture) that would help them advance to a higher stage in the future,” he explained.

Also present at the event was the Dean of Student Affairs and Alumni Prof Madya Razli Ahmad.

Also present to enliven the programme were students from Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and Universiti Tun Hussein Onn (UTHM).
