UniMAP Scores 100 Percent Medals At I-ENVEX 2016

Kangar, 11 April – Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) scored 100 percent  medals at International Engineering Invention and Innovation Exhibition (i-ENVEX) 2016 recently.

The total achievement consisted of 27 gold, 52 silver and three bronze medals were won at I-ENVEX 2016 which was held at Dewan Ilmu, UniMAP Main Campus Pauh Putra.

According to UniMAP Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and International)  also Acting Vice Chancellor Dato’ Prof. Dr. Zul Azhar Zahid Jamal, UniMAP's i-ENVEX performance had increased as every products submitted won awards.

“This shows that UniMAP products are of high-quality and will be presented at more prestigious research exhibitions in the future,” he said.

I-ENVEX 2016, the seventh to be held, saw the participation of 400 entries from various Institutes of Higher Education (IPT) and secondary schools nationwide, as well as from countries including South Korea, Canada, the United States of America, Japan, China, India, Turkey, Romania, Moldova, Bulgaria, Egypt, Iraq, Indonesia, Thailand, Morocco, Cambodia, Poland, Taiwan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

He said that 16 percent of the products are from young researchers from foreign countries and 36 percent are from school children.

“Students from IPT and secondary schools must constantly think critically to become a new generation that would be competitive in the field of research and innovation.

“Taking into account the current global situation, we have decided to take a bold step to transform the national economy in order to be a knowledge- and innovation-based economy.

“In order to hit the targets set by the government's Economic Transformation Plan and the New Economic Model which establishes new challenges to the people especially in creating intrepid youngsters who are capable of making a change, a challenge which UniMAP has made into a goal to ensure its achievement,” he said.

He added that the industry needs to play a role in helping to commercialise the inventions created by students.

Gracing the event with their presence were the Raja Muda Perlis, His Royal Highness Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail also the Chancellor of UniMAP and Raja Puan Muda Perlis, Tuanku Hajjah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil also the UniMAP Pro Chancellor.

UniMAP inaugural holding of I-ENVEX in conjunction with the UniMAP Korean Week (UniKOW) featured a number of fascinating programmes among them the International Colloquium on Korean High-Tech Application (ICKHA 2016), Korean Food Fair and a Taekwondo display.
