UniMAP Improves QS University Rankings: Asia 2016 Standing
Kangar, 15 Jun – Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) continues to improve its standing in the QS University Rankings: Asia 2016 study when it was listed among the top 230 Asian universities, compared to the top 250 as the previous years.
UniMAP Vice Chancellor Dato’ Prof. Dr. Zul Azhar Zahid Jamal said that the improvement indirectly gave a boost of motivation for UniMAP which turned nine years old after its rebranding from the Northern Malaysia University College of Engineering (KUKUM) to continually ascend the QS ranking chart.
He clarified that at a young age, UniMAP was able to position itself among the best universities in Malaysia which were older than 20 years. UniMAP's strategy since 2008 of targeting to be among the top 500 universities worldwide come 2020 is beginning to bear fruit.
“According on the report, UniMAP is the 13th best university in Malaysia and the ninth best among public universities (UA).
“I believe that full cooperation from all stakeholders and the UniMAP community would indirectly help UniMAP to achieve its target to be in the top 500 universities in the world by 2020.
QS University Ranking Asia is a United Kingdom-based agency that ranks universities regionally and internationally.
This assessment involves 350 major Asian universities and has been assessed since 2009 based on nine indicators such as academic reputation, employer reputation, student-to-faculty ratio, citation per faculty, international faculty ratio, international student ratio and the latest indicator, number of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) staff members.
Meanwhile, Zul Azhar said that to enhance the university's international reputation, UniMAP has been scheduled to host the 12th QS APPLE Conference at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) at 22-24 November later this year.
He declared that this conference, which is considered the finest Asia Pacific education conference, is expected to attract 600 participants from all over the world.
“Besides UniMAP, it would also be a great platform for Malaysian institutes of higher education to expand their network with institutes from the rest of the world,” he said.
