Jelajah Ramadhan UniMAP Alumni Accomplishes Mission to Clean Up 8 Mosques from Perlis to Johor

KANGAR, 28 June – For Muslims, the month of Ramadhan brings reward many times over for the good deeds and charity that they perform compared with other months.

The Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) Alumni Association with the cooperation of the Alumni Development Unit, the Office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor Student Affairs and Alumni and the UniMAP UNESCO Club took this opportunity in Ramadhan to organise the Jelajah Ramadhan Alumni UniMAP: Mission to Clean Up Mosques from Perlis to Johor.

UniMAP Deputy Vice Chancellor Student Affairs and Alumni Prof. Madya Dr. Mohd Foad Sakdan said that the four-day three-night programme involved visiting eight mosques in eight states from Perlis to Johor.

“I began the journey with 31 UniMAP students and alumni members from UniMAP Pauh Putra Campus last Friday toward Kok Mak Mosque in Perlis then followed by visiting Kampung Laka Mosque in Changlun, Kedah.

“Beside clearing up mosque grounds, the Jelajah Ramadhan is also intended to acquaint UniMAP Alumni members with the states they visit, simultaneously promoting UniMAP to local communities,” he said in a statement here today.

The Jelajah Ramadhan Alumni UniMAP departure ceremony was officiated by UniMAP Vice Chancellor Dato’ Prof. Dr. Zul Azhar Zahid Jamal at Dewan Kecemerlangan, UniMAP at the Pauh Putra Campus.

Six other mosques cleaned up during the programme were the Taman Penaga Surau in Penang, the Kampung Tekah Mosque in Taiping, Perak, the Ahmadi Rantau Panjang Mosque in Klang, Selangor, the Taman Tengku Jaafar Parish Mosque in Negeri Sembilan, the Al Aziz Mosque in Pernu, Melaka and the Al Firdaus Congregational Mosque in Tanjung Gading, Muar, Johor.

The Jelajah Ramadhan UniMAP delegation also visited the family of UniMAP Alumni Allahyarham Nurul Syazeila Iryani Suhaimi who was killed in an accident with her 17-month old child in a southbound 16-vehicle pile up at Kilometre 405.8 North-South Expressway (PLUS) near Kuala Kubu Baru.

According to Mohd. Foad, the Jelajah Ramadhan event was organised in hopes that it would inspire society to be united in minding the cleanliness and sanctity of mosques.

He stated that the UniMAP Alumni indirectly carried a message to the community, especially for the younger generation to work hard to help with the management of the mosques in their own areas.

“For the most part, mosque management is usually helmed by the elderly or retirees  who as we are all aware are not as able-bodied as the youth.

“Together we must lend our aid in this especially because mosques are public venues for Muslim society to gather and strengthen community bonds. Thus we must make time to participate in the management of mosques,” he implored.

He added that these programmes should be go on as they help inculcate volunteerism and self-identity among the UniMAP Alumni members, at the same time educate them on the value of sacrifice especially during Ramadhan.

“I hope that these efforts will have blessings from Allah and be a wonderful memory to the UniMAP Alumni members involved and may the ties between the mosque parishioners and UniMAP be strengthened,” he continued.
