UniMAP Vice Chancellor Joins Perlis State Government's Jalinan Kasih To The Land Below The Wind 2016

KANGAR, 15 June – Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) Vice Chancellor Dato’ Prof. Dr. Zul Azhar Zahid Jamal accompanied the delegation of Raja Muda Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Ibni Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail in a Perlis State Government jalinan kasih working visit to several locations in Sabah.

Among others, the jalinan kasih visit is a yearly initiative of the 504th Regiment of the Territorial Army, organised to strengthen networking bond between the state government and the security forces, namely the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) and the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) in the state.

The programme, which is now in its 12th year, was also attended by Perlis state agency heads and corporate figures to infuse morale and increase the spirit of the security forces on duty during the months of Ramadhan and the upcoming Syawal.

“The visit which was under the patronage of the Yayasan Tuanku Syed Putra (YTSP) was of great benefit to the delegate members in terms of duty, responsibility and sacrifice of the security forces for the public.

“I believe that this would help correct public perception of our security forces' contributions to the nation and the general public in particular. It will also indirectly win public support for the government's efforts to improve remunerations to the members of ATM and PDRM.

“Besides this, it also functions as the finest medium to gather information on the best practices of Sabahan organisation to be used as new ideas for introduction and implementation by the relevant agencies including UniMAP upon our return to Perlis,” he said.

According to Zul Azhar, the four-day programme was divided into two main segments namely the courtesy visit to the security forces on the islands near Sandakan and the titian kasih programme at secondary schools in Sandakan.

“I myself was able to share information and give a motivational talk to 100 students at the Sandakan Vocational College who are studying in technical and vocational streams which are in line with the UniMAP curriculum.

“Besides that, I also broke fast and performed tarawikh prayers with the students,” he continued.

Meanwhile, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin also the Commander of 504th Regiment said that the ATM will not compromise in matters of peace and security which are the basis of the nation's prosperity and well-being.

He said that the role of the security forces will be more challenging with the evolution of the nature of threats against this country from time to time.

“Therefore, every security force personnel must be responsible in ensuring discipline and that their roles are significant in every aspect,” he said.

In another event, he also said that the cooperative network between the police and the community must be strengthened as it would minimise and prevent crime.

For this purpose, he urged the PDRM to constantly seek out ways to form close cooperation with the local community to help decrease and prevent crime.

He also said that the people should always respond to the authorities' call for crime prevention activities for the good of all.
