MODENAS-UniMAP Strategic Cooperation Benefits National Automotive Industry
ARAU, 21 July (Bernama) – Motosikal dan Enjin Nasional Sdn Bhd (Modenas) describes the strategic cooperation in the research and development (R&D) of engines with Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) as being beneficial to the national automotive industry.
Head of Modenas R&D Division Wan Shahar Wan Teh said that Modenas expects this cooperation to stimulate growth in the motor industry which is active and well-known in the northern region of Malaysia.
He said that Modenas is poised to provide R&D grants in the future but for now the company can only contribute its engines for the learning purposes.
“This cooperation which has been in place since 2012 allows UniMAP students to greatly explore the automotive field, develop advanced technology and increase their marketability,” he said.
Wan Shahar said this during the Riang Ria Aidilfitri UniMAP event at the main campus in Pauh Putra today.
At the event, Wan Shahar donated 10 Modenas motorcycle engines to UniMAP Vice Chancellor Datuk Prof Dr Zul Azhar Zahid Jamal for use by UniMAP Motorsports Technology Research Unit (MoTECH).
“UniMAP R&D in this field is theory-based and we at Modenas will find our common ground. Ultimately, we will optimise the applications,” Wan Shahar said.
Meanwhile, Zul Azhar Zahid said that the sponsoring of 10 engine units is a symbolic cooperation between two parties in forming the UniMAP-Modenas Centre for Excellence in Automotive and Motoring Research.
He said UniMAP will ensure that collaborations or research undertaken will improve the quality of students, be relevant with current requirements and help to expand MoTECH.
