Former UniMAP VC Receives UniMAP Leadership Luminary Award 2016
Georgetown, 25 July – Even after four months of retirement, the accomplishments of former Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) Vice Chancellor Datuk Prof Emeritus Dr Kamarudin Hussin is remembered and appreciated while being awarded the UniMAP Leadership Luminary Award 2016.
The award was presented to Datuk Kamarudin at the UniMAP Alumni Luminary Award Celebration (ALUMNIGHT) 2016 organised by the UniMAP Alumni Association and the Student Affairs and Alumni Department (HEPA) that took place at the Hotel Equatorial here last night.
Chairman of the UniMAP Alumni Association Syed Akhmal Syed Jamalil said that the award was bestowed to Dr Kamarudin for his 14 years of service and sacrifice in his effort to develop UniMAP.
“He was the earliest luminary to receive the first students of UniMAP when it was still known as the Northern Malaysia University College of Engineering (KUKUM) in the beginning until it now stands proudly in the national and international stage.
“Therefore, the UniMAP Alumni Association is conferring this award as a token of our appreciation to his presence ever since we were students until today,” he said when met during the event.
Also present were UniMAP Vice Chancellor Dato’ Prof Dr Zul Azhar Zahid Jamal dan Deputy Vice Chancellor HEPA Prof Madya Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan.
Besides Dr Kamarudin, Centre of Excellence Geopolymer and Green Technology (CEGeoGTech) Manager Prof Madya Dr Mohd Mustafa Abdullah was awarded the Academic Luminary Award, Owner of PROKAS, REMO Sdn Bhd Reza Mohyin (2008 alumni) was given the Entrepreneurial Luminary Award and Ahmad Faeiz Zulkifli (2008 alumni), now a senior engineer at Toyota Motor Asia Pacific in neighbouring Thailand.
Meanwhile, Dr Zul Azhar hoped that all 12,791 members of the UniMAP Alumni will take the opportunity to visit UniMAP to inspire and increase the exposure of present UniMAP students.
“As we know, the employment sector today is challenging. Therefore successful alumni members would be able to provide the latest information to newer members who have recently graduated or those still studying at UniMAP.
“Moreover, alumni members working in the industry or other institutions are hoped to give their support in the employer reputation study to help UniMAP achieve among the 500 top universities worldwide in the QS World University Ranking by 2020,” he said at the ceremony.
He also launched the ‘I Care, You Care & We Care’ Fund to aid underprivileged alumni members or other individuals as well as the UniMAP Alumni Association membership card with TouchNGo features at the event which was attended by almost 200 UniMAP alumni members.
