UniMAP Set Eyes On 9th Consecutive SUKUM Champion
Arau, August 3 - Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) has set the mission to retain its champion title in the Malaysian University Sport Tournamnet (SUKUM) 41 that will take place from 6 to 13 August 2016 at Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM), Nilai, Negeri Sembilan.
UniMAP Vice Chancellor, Dato 'Prof. Dr. Zul Azhar Zahid Jamal said that UniMAP aims to win more than seven gold medals, exceeding the total number of golds won last year which is six.
"Our mission is to continue to retain our title and this year we are targeting seven gold, five silver and nine bronze.
"Among the events targeted to contribute gold are Football (Senior), Tenpin Bowling (Men and Women), Lawn Bowl (Men), Athletics (Men and Women )and the Bicycle event," he said in his speech at the Vice-Chancellor Message to the UniMAP SUKUM Contingent at the Multipurpose Hall, UniMAP Campus Kubang Gajah, here.
Also present were the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs and Alumni UniMAP Assoc.Prof. Dr. Mohd Fo'ad Sakdan cum the Chief de Mission for UniMAP SUKUM contingent and the Director of UniMAP Sports Centre, Suhizaz Sudin.
He added that he is confident that UniMAP athletes are able to achieve more medals in the tournament.
UniMAP is sending a total of 374 athletes and officials to participate in 22 events, namely Badminton (Mixed), Bicycle (Men), Football (Senior and Veteran), Volleyball (Men), Volleyball (Women), Lawn Bowl (Men and Women), Netball (Senior), Dart (Mixed), Chess (Men and Women), Futsal (Men and Women), Athletics (Men and Men Veteran), Athletics (Women and Women Veteran), Sepak Takraw (Team), Tennis, Tenpin Bowling ( Men and Women) and Table Tennis.
For the record, last year, UniMAP is the overall champions at the 40th SUKUM held at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) with six gold medals, four silver and two bronze.
