SUKUM 2016 : UniMAP Scores First Gold Medal
Nilai, 9 August – The Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) contingent participating in the Malaysian University Staff Sports Championship (SUKUM 2016) scored their first gold medal through Mohd. Zulfauzi Mohd. Sawal's victory at the tenpin bowling (men's single) tournament.
Mohd. Zulfauzi who scored 1,258 pins succeeded in defeating Iskandar Adon of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) who bowled 1,238 pins.
UniMAP also won the bronze medal in the event thanks to Nurakmal Ramli who bowled 1,213 pins.
Meanwhile in the women's singles category, UniMAP participants failed to score any medals ascending only up to sixth place. Three other UniMAP players rose to the 12th, 27th and 50th place among 64 participants.
Gold medal in the women's singles category was won by Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Silver was acquired by Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia (UIAM) and bronze by Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM).
In other development, the UniMAP darts team failed to advance into the semi-finals after their 1-3 defeat at the hands of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).
In volleyball, UniMAP was victorious in the first game when the men's volleyball team defeated the home team Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) 2-1 while the women's team triumphed over UIAM 2-0.
The veteran football team displayed a valiant effort to topple the Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) team 3 goals to 2.
However, the UniMAP tennis mixed team failed to hold its own against Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) which happened to be the defending champions after only winning three out of seven games.
The three points were contributed by Ahmad Hazeeq Hisham, a men's single player, Nur Farhana Yusoff and Zuhannis Zahari, the women's doubles participants, and the men's doubles open pair of Ahmad Faizal Mansor and Nurul Amri Ahmad.
