DBP-UniMAP Programme Inspires The Spirit Of Independence
Kangar, 3 Sept – To inspire the spirit of independence during the 59th National Day, Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) with the cooperation of Dewan Bahasa & Pustaka (DBP) organised the Cultural Image, Healthy Mind and Independence Poetry Night Programme.
Among the events slated for the programme which began 1 September were friendly sports tournaments, visits to UniMAP campuses by the DBP delegates, a poetry night and a woodball match.
Dean of Academic Management Prof Ir Dr Rezuwan Kamarudin said that the programme, which was run in conjunction with the national day, was a welcome event seeing as the changes caused by globalisation continue to erode patriotic spirit among the younger generation.
He stated that UniMAP being an engineering university is not a hindrance for it to organise arts and culture events via the UniMAP Cultural and Recreational Unit (UKR) and the Malaysian Royal Institutions Research Centre (PKIRM).
“Thus UniMAP will continue to commit to these programmes in order to preserve our national legacy,” he said in a speech representing the UniMAP Vice Chancellor at the Independence Poetry Night Event at the UniMAP Kubang Gajah Campus.
Also present were the Director of DBP Department of Policy and Research Rusli Abdul Ghani dan the Director of Sports Centre Suhizaz Sudin.
At the event, DBP representative Rasdi Daud recited the poem entitled “Menuntun Si Merdeka” (Witnessing Merdeka) penned by Awang Sariyan and his own poem “Aku Ingin Menciummu Setiap Hari” (I Wish To Kiss You Every Day), followed by recital of his own poem by Nordin Zainal Abidin entitled “Merdeka dan Kita” (Independence and Us).
Director of the UniMAP Publishing Unit Prof Asiah Sarji read a poem she wrote entitled “Aduhai Si Tanggang” (Oh, Si Tanggang) which will be published at the end of the year.
Also, DBP representative Rosdi Mat Raqib played a guitar and sang a song he crafted entitled “Si Penghuni Sepi” (The Lonely Inhabitant).
Additionally, the song and dance performances by the UniMAP UKR Inderasutra Group enlivened the event.
Awards were handed out during the event to UniMAP who had won the badminton tournament while DBP had succeeded in winning the darts competition.
The DBP Delegation consisted of 50 participants from the DBP Bureau of Family Body Culture, Bureau of Tours and Recreation and the Bureau of Family Sports Body.
