11 Cattle Slaughtered For UniMAP Korban and Akikah Ceremony 2016

ARAU, 14 September: 11 cattle and eight goats were sacrificed during the Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) Islamic Centre Korban and Akikah Ceremony.

UniMAP Vice Chancellor Dato’ Prof. Dr. Zul Azhar Zahid Jamal said that this traditional UniMAP event which was first held in 2005 was also participated by non-governmental organisations and outside agencies.

“Out of the 11 cattle sacrificed today, three were contributed by UniMAP staff through a salary deduction scheme which began last October.

“Also, a cattle was contributed by Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department,” he said at the UniMAP Korban and Akikah Ceremony yesterday.

Also present were UniMAP Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic and International Prof. Ir. Dr. Rezuwan Kamaruddin, UniMAP Deputy Vice Chancellor Student Affairs and Alumni Prof. Madya Dr. Mohd Fo’ad Sakdan, UniMAP Registrar Zuber Mohamad and the Director of the UniMAP Islamic Centre Dr. Ku Mohd Nabil Ku Hamid as well as the Deputy Director of the Perlis National Civics Bureau (BTN) Jasmi Jasa.

Dato’ Zul Azhar stated that meat acquired from the slaughter at UniMAP will be donated to five orphanages and tahfiz centres in Perlis.

Among the orphanages and tahfiz centres that have been selected were Rumah Hembusan Kasih, Asrama Yayasan Saad, Pusat Jagaan Anak Yatim dan Miskin Teratak Rahmat, Maahad Tahfiz Al Hikmah and Maahad Tahfiz Al-Quran Ar Raudhah.

“I hope that in the future the number of sacrificial cattle and goats will increase and we welcome contributions from individuals and NGOs who are interested in doing charity through UniMAP,” he said.

The UniMAP Korban and Akikah Ceremony was attended by 300 students and staff members and had acquired sponsorship from the Malaysia Heritage Club (KERIS), an NGO under the banner of the BTN.
