UTP Student Wins The Uthayam 3.0 Intervarsity Singing Competition
Pauh Putra, 18 Sept – A student from Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) became the champion after beating six students in the final round of the Uthayam 3.0 Intervarsity Singing Competition which was held at Dewan Ilmu, Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP).
Arulventhan Manokaran took home RM2000 worth of cash and a trophy while the second place winner, Mithelle d/o Francis, a participant from Politeknik Ibrahim Sultan (PIS) Johor managed to take home RM1000 worth of cash and a trophy.
In addition, the third place was won by Sanjeev Naidu s/o Somasundran from Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) while the consolation prize was obtained by participants from UTP, University Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and University Malaysia Terengganu (UMT).
Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor of UniMAP Dato’ Prof Dr Zul Azhar Zahid Jamal said that he is extremely proud because UniMAP was able to host again for the second time, for one of the biggest programmes of the Indian community so far.
Besides, he stated that this proves UniMAP always supports and encourages cultural programmes across all races and believes that programmes like this could discover new talents from students.
“I believe that with commitment and determination, participants will be able to succeed and simultaneously gain valuable experiences which will be useful for them in the future,” he said while giving his speech at the competition.
The Advisor of the Transport Ministry of Malaysia was also present along with Tan Sri Datuk Seri M Kayveas and the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Students Affairs and Alumni, Prof Madya Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan.
Uthayam 3.0 is a stage for students from polytechnics and universities all over Malaysia to uncover their talents in singing and this time around it was with the theme of “Sanggama Tamil” in UniMAP.
This programme is organized by the Secretariat of Ponggal Gala Nite 2016/17, which is also known as Chatrah Yugam under the supervision of the Department of Students Affairs and Alumni of UniMAP and Minnal Fm. Moreover, this programme has managed to channel its profit to families who couldn’t support their children’s education fees especially those in the northern states.
