UniMAP Tops Three Categories In UniMAP Woodball Open 2016
Pauh Putra, 27 September 2016 – The Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) team performed superbly at the UniMAP Woodball Open Championship 2016 being victorious in the women's singles, women's team and the men's team categories in Perlis state inter-departmental matches.
In the women's singles, Rosmawati Abidin who represented UniMAP recorded 63 strokes while UniMAP showed 294 strokes beating the Kangar Municipal Council (MPK) and the Office of the Duli Yang Maha Mulia Raja Perlis (PERALIS).
Meanwhile in the men's team category, the UniMAP team recorded 266 strokes defeating the Public Works Department (JKR) and the Perlis Islamic Department (JAIPs).
UniMAP Vice Chancellor Dato’ Prof Dr Zul Azhar Zahid Jamal stated that 20 teams took part in the inaugural championship organised by UniMAP with participation even from schools and Institutes of Higher Learning (IPT) thus proving that the sport is capable of attracting young players.
“I believe that this positive development bode a higher number of future talents among the younger generation increasing the organisations of championships in UniMAP or nationally.
“As a university with experience in organising international woodball matches, I am pleased to see participation not just from government departments but also from the public sector from within Perlis and without,” he spoke during the Award Presentation and Closing Ceremony of the tournament at the Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Library (PTSFP) Auditorium.
The Raja Muda Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail who is also the Royal Patron of the Perlis Woodball Association and the Raja Puan Muda Perlis Tuanku Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil graced the closing ceremony to present awards to the winners.
The championship also saw participation by the teams from Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Vocational College Lipis, Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Perlis and other teams from within and outside the state.
Besides the UniMAP Woodball Arena as the main venue, the arenas at the Teaching Institute of Malaysia (IPGM) and the Dato’ Sheikh Ahmad Square was also used as venues for the tournament which began last Thursday.
