UniMAP Wins Third Place in Perlis Open Poetry Festival
KANGAR, 30 September 2016 – Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) representatives succeeded in winning third place at the Perlis Open Poetry Festival Contest which took place at the Perlis State Public Library Lecture Hall here recently.
Team UniMAP A was represented by four participants who brought home a trophy, a cash prize of RM 800 and a certificate, while Team UniMAP B took fourth place winning a cash prize of RM 500 and a certificate.
UniMAP poetry team manager Suhaidah Said said that the UniMAP poetry teams' inaugural performances at the contest provided exposure to the students who in majority were from engineering courses.
“Seeing that this is our first participation, I am certain that the UniMAP poetry teams would be able to advance even further with proper nurturing.
“This success proves that Malay language arts needs to be increased among the youth. We must bolster this interest among them and this role should be taken by Malay Language lecturers and academic staff members,” she said recently.
The UniMAP A and UniMAP B poetry teams consisted of three Bachelor's Degree and three Diploma students, namely Muhamad Fadhil Azhari Abdul Wahab, Syarifah Noor Anisah Tuan Baru, Siti Nur Aishah Al-Hafizat Abdul Ghani, Muhammad Syahir Aimi Saiman, Muhammad Aiman Hassin and Muhammad Ikhwan Shafiq Ramli who are all under the tutelage of Bahasa Melayu instructors Mohamad Zaki Abdul Halim and Mohd Syamril Aklmar Chek Kassim from the UniMAP Centre for International Languages.
The Perlis Open Poetry Festival 2016 was organised by the National Arts and Culture Department (JKKN) with the cooperation of the Perlis Writers Association (3P).
