UniART Excel In FSAE-ASEAN
KANGAR, October 10, 2016 - Universiti Malaysia Perlis Automotive Racing Team - UniART emerged as the champion in the category of Business Plan Presentation at Formula SAE-ASEAN organized at the Speedway Plus Circut, Subang Jaya, Selangor, recently.
The team also won the runner-up for Cost Analysis category and third place in Design Engineering category which puts UniMAP at the third best overall placing with six awards earned.
Dr Md Tasyrif Abdul Rahman, a senior lecturer from the School of Mechatronic Engineering UniMAP who led the team said that UniART was also awarded the Special Award for Best Impact team by ACCMS Warranty & Services in recognition for the effort and dedication shown by every member of the team.
He said that UniART team members consists of 17 students divided into two main crew which are the technical crew and management crew representing three UniMAP schools,the School of Mechatronics Engineering, School of Manufacturing Engineering and School of Engineering Technology.
He added that among the roles and duties of the crew are analyzing the strengths and weaknesses for their part in preparation to develop the UniART racing car.
"We have overcome many challenges so we can take pride in bagging a lot of FSAE award categories including a special award given by one of the organizers after seeing the fighting spirit, determination and efficiency of our team in tackling issues and challenges throughout this FSAE," he said when contacted.
According to him, the biggest challenge is time as every member of the team is a student and they have to manage their time properly in between lectures and building the car for FSAE.
"There are various types of testing, analysis and modification conducted throughout the training sessions at UniMAP Go-Kart track because this is the first time UniART participates in FSAE.
"Although we were not able to join the dynamic event due to mechanical failure, however, becoming one of the team that passed three categories examined by the strict FSAE 'standard' has given a meaningful experience to us," he said.
FSAE is a design competition that includes business and the automotive industry, organized by the Malaysia Automotive Institute (MAI) in collaboration with several other companies.
