UniMAP Hosts COP 2016

KANGAR, 9 November – Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) will host the Council of Presidents (COP) Global U8 Consortium (GU8) scheduled to take place from 13 to 16 November.

UniMAP Vice Chancellor Dato’ Prof. Dr. Zul Azhar Zahid Jamal said the meeting which will be attended by five presidents or their representatives from five GU8 member universities is intended to discuss the direction and cooperation to be taken by the consortium.

UniMAP is proud to be selected and hopes that our involvement as the sole Malaysian Public University in GU8 will increase UniMAP's visibility in the international arena.

“We have arranged a number of events during the meeting, including a tree-planting programme at the UniMAP Pauh Putra Campus and a Wisdom Fair knowledge-sharing session entitled Challenges of Global Collaboration and Excellence in Research and Education,” he remarked in a statement today. “Besides UniMAP, other member universities include Xiamen University from China, University of Le Havre from France, Inha University from South Korea and Otto Von Guericke University Magdeburg from Germany,” he said when met at this office recently.

Dato' Zul elaborated that the climax of the programme will be a bicycling activity to enjoy the Perlis scenery with DYTM Raja Muda Perlis and UniMAP Chancellor Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail. “On the final day, the GU8 delegation will be escorted for a visit to Langkawi to sample the island's beauty and to promote it as a tourist destination,” he continued.

GU8 was formed to fill the increasing need in cross-cultural education through student exchange and the drafting of a standard curriculum as a response to new challenges as required by the industry.
