iCOM Athlete Grabs Back King Of Sprint Title in UniMAP Closed Tournament

Arau, 28 November - Athlete from the School of Human Development & Technocommunication (iCOM), Mohd. Fauzi Md. Amin appeared as the king of sprints at 12th Indoor Athletics Championships Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) when he won gold medals for both 100 and 200 meters.

Mohd. Fauzi, a third year student of New Media Communication also set a new record for both events and allows him to be crowned as sportsman of the championship.

Meanwhile, sportswoman of the tournament goes to Nurathirah Abd. Fathah of the School of Engineering (PPK) Electrical Systems which won three gold medals in the 100 and 200 meters and also in the long jump, also setting the new tournament record for the 200 meters.

Mohd. Fauzi said that the success is quite significant as he is now in the final year of study.

"Over the past three years in UniMAP, I have never embraced gold medal for both events and usually beaten by my teammates in the Malaysian Universities Sports Council championship (MASUM)  which represent the School of Technology Engineering (FTK).

"But Alhamdulillah, this year I’m able to win two gold medals with a new tournament record. It was more memorable, when I was named as the sportsman of the tournament.

"Insya Allah, I will use the final year to contribute something to the UniMAP contingent of in the MASUM Athletics Championships, which to be held next year April in UniMAP" he said.

In addition, the 12th Indoor Athletics Championships of UniMAP was attended by 12 teams from the schools in UniMAP with more than 6,000 athletes in total. In this edition, the School of Electrical System continues to retain the title for the fourth time in a row after winning 8 gold, 6 silver and 2 bronze medals.

Second place goes to the School of Computer and Communication  with 3 gold, 5 silver and 5 bronze medals while the third place was won by the School of Technology Engineering with 3 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze medals.

The closing ceremony was officiated by the Dean of Academic Management which carry out the function of the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and International) of UniMAP, Assoc Ir. Dr. Rezuwan Kamaruddin.

Director of UniMAP Sports Centre, Hj. Suhizaz Sudin said the tournament organized specifically to select athletes that will represent UniMAP in MASUM athletics championships next year.

"As an engineering focused university, preparation and continuous training are needed to enable UniMAP athletes to compete in the MASUM tournament, which largely will be participated by the national athletes.

"Thus, the internal level championship is very important for us to choose capable athletes to bring the UniMAP challenges in MASUM," he said.
