UniMAP SUTRAMAYA WON THIRD PLACE IN 1MALAYSIA DANCE FESTIVAL MAKUM 2017
Sintok, 22 April - Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) won the third place in the 1Malaysia Dance Festival organized by the Malaysian Universities Cultural Council (MAKUM) 2017 which was held at the Dataran Budaya, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM).
UniMAP was represented by the Sutramaya dance group which consists of Siamese, Iban, Orang Asli, Chinese, Indian and Malay students, managed to take home a cash prize of RM600 together with the Best Costume award.
Director of Culture and Recreation Unit of UniMAP, Mohd Izwan Izhar Haris said the Sutramaya group trained for three weeks before participating in the festival as the members of the group is composed of students of various courses of study.
He added Sutramaya also received guidance and training of all the UKR staff, including Terry Junas as the choreographer and Libren Francis as their escort.
"This is the first success for UniMAP at the MAKUM level, even as third place, but it gives invaluable experience to all the members of the group to face other competition in the future," he said when contacted.
Festival Dance 1 Malaysia was held from 20 to 22 April also saw Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) won the first place, including awards for Best Choreography and Best Performance followed by UUM in the second place while Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) has attracted the attention of the jury and won the Special Jury Award.
