Cooperation between PDRM and UniMAP is important

Arau, April 28 - Cooperation between the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) is important to ensure synergy between academic institutions, security agencies and the public, to remain strong.

Vice Chancellor of UniMAP, Dato ' Prof. Dr. Zul Azhar Zahid Jamal said, in the context of UniMAP’s safety, UniMAP is made of more than 13,000 people including students and staff, and the majorities of them are the members of the public in the state of Perlis.

He added that, the number can reach up to 20,000 if we were to count in their spouse and family members; which makes up nearly 20% of the population of Perlis.

Thus, he explained, UniMAP through the Center for Co-curriculum and Safety Department took an initiative to organize a shooting session involving the top management of both organizations to bring together a closer tie between the two organizations.

"We certainly already have a close relationship with the police through the establishment of Kor Sukarelawan Siswa Siswi (SUKSIS), however, this meeting, through the shooting session, is different as it will bring the top management of both organizations even closer.

"This is to help facilitate the process in the event of any unintended situations involving UniMAP or members of their families," he said in his speech at the prize giving ceremony held in conjunction of UniMAP Head of Departments Shooting Competition. The shooting session was held at Mata Ayer shooting range, in Perlis.

The prize giving ceremony was completed by Deputy Police Chief, ACP Noor Mushar Hj. Mohd.

A total of 40 heads of department and senior management of both organizations participated in the competition, and the first place of the shooting competition goes to the Dean of Postgraduate Studies, Pr. Dr. Zaliman Sauli and second place went to the Direction of Safety Department of UniMAP, who was also the previous Perlis Police Chief, Datuk Zul Aznam Haron. Third place went to UniMAP Residential College Principal Syed Akhmal Syed Jamalil.

According to Prof. Dr. Zul Azhar, UniMAP is giving opportunities to PDRM to utilise any infrastructure or facilities including expertise possessed by the university, if it can benefits the society in any way.

On the latest event, UniMAP and PDRM worked together in defusing a bomb that was found at the UniMAP main campus using drone technolgy and robotic expertise.

"UniMAP also provide opportunities for members of the police if they wish to continue their studies in any field of study offered," he said.
