UniMAP Alumni Donates Aid for Aidilfitri
PAUH PUTRA, 23 June – As the joy of Aidilfitri celebration nears, there are those who celebrate it modestly because of their hardships in life.
The Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) Department of Student Affairs & Alumni (HEPA) Alumni Development Unit and UniMAP Alumni Association took the initiative to help those eligible to be awarded 'zakat' tithing in the states of Perlis and Kedah.
UniMAP Deputy Vice Chancellor HEPA Prof. Madya Dr. Mohd Foad Sakdan said that the donation was collected among the UniMAP community and its departments.
“Last year we were able to distribute donations to seven families in Perlis and Kedah in the form of sundry goods and 'duit raya' totalling RM300 for Aidilfitri celebration preparations.
“I hope that our meagre donations will be able to help these families to prepare for 'hari raya',” he said while distributing the Aidilfitri donations here yesterday.
Also present were the UniMAP Deputy Dean of Alumni Development Dr. Ummi Naiemah Saraih and the Deputy President of the UniMAP Alumni Association Mohd Hafiz Arshad.
Meanwhile recipient Ahmadi Hassan, 37, of Kampung Lembah Keriang, Changloon expressed his utmost gratitude for the donation given to his family.
“I am very grateful to the people who have donated to our family. This will lighten our Aidilfitri burden to some extent,” he said.
Ahmadi who lives with 14 family members including his mother in a house constructed on a Government Reserve Land said that his family hopes that there are generous parties that would be able to donate a house for them.
“My sister who is paralysed and stricken with breast and thyroid cancer is also staying with us,” he said. Ahmadi works at a nearby golf course.
