UniMAP Increases Safety Awareness Among Staff During Aidilfitri

Pauh Putra, 21 June – During the upcoming Aidilfitri celebration, safety must be emphasised including the aspect of driving and home security during the festive season.

In their efforts to advise employees who will be returning to their home towns for 'hari raya', the Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) Department of Security  with the cooperation of the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) Perlis Contingent, the Perlis Road Safety Department (JKJR) and the Perlis Road Transport Department (JPJ) organised the “Secured Property, Safe Arrival at Destination” Safety Campaign.

UniMAP Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic and International Prof. Ir. Dr. Rezuwan Kamarudin said that the campaign has a double objective to increase awareness and provide guidance in property safety at home and office, as well as road safety..

“This campaign needed to be carried out at UniMAP level as its community has reached 15,000 consisting of 13,000 students and 2000 staff members.

“From this number, 2,300 vehicles are registered with UniMAP and we expect as high as 40 percent of the staff will be leaving their offices and homes and driving back to their home towns during this festive season,” he said officiating the campaign at the UniMAP Campus Main Gate.

Also present were UniMAP Deputy Vice Chancellor Student Affairs and Alumni Prof. Madya Dr. Mohd Foad Sakdan, Head of the Perlis PDRM Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department Superintendent V.Raja A/L Vadivellu, Director of the Perlis JKJR Mr. Kalai Kumar A/L Periyasamy and the UniMAP Security Department Director Dato'  Zull Aznam Haron.

He further explained that with the festive season and long holiday, it would be prudent for UniMAP to jointly carry out this campaign with PDRM, JPJ and JKJR who are more knowledgeable in their respective fields to present to its entire community.

“We hope that this cooperation will continue on to ensure the safety and comfort of not just the UniMAP community but also the people of Perlis,” he said.

During the event, UniMAP staff and students were provided safety pamphlets and snacks for the journey back to their home towns.
