ECRL Negaraku Industrial Skills Training Programme

Putrajaya, 15 June – Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) along with 13 other Institutes of Higher Education (IPT) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Malaysia Rail Link (MRL) and China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) at the Finance Ministry Malaysia, Putrajaya yesterday.

UniMAP was represented by its Vice Chancellor Dato’ Prof. Dr. Zul Azhar Zahid Jamal. The MoU was signed to implement the ECRL Negaraku Industrial Skills Training Programme.

Dr. Zul Azhar said that UniMAP would compile the requirements from the standpoint of students who would be attending the Industrial Training, the teaching staff and the number of researchers in the related field.

UniMAP fully supports the implementation of this programme and as token of our support will send students in accordance with the requirement of the company involved.

“Up to 3,600 students will be needed for the entirety of the programme which covers students for industrial training, graduands and graduates who are seeking jobs in civil, mechanical and electrical engineering starting in 2018,” he said.

In addition, the three field of studies mentioned are UniMAP's strongest fields, and thus he was confident that UniMAP would be able to provide sufficient human resource to fulfil MRL's requirements.

“Even better is that these students would be trained and then absorbed by the contractors involved to continue their service with them even though the project is expected to end in 2022,” he said.

For a period of three to six months, these students with certification, diploma and degrees will work to complete the construction of a 600-km rail line from Gombak, Selangor to Wakaf Bharu, Kelantan.
