UniMAP Targets 4 Gold At MASUM 2017

PAUH PUTRA, July 3rd – Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) targets four gold medals at the Universiti Malaysian Varsity Sports Council Athletics Championship (MASUM) 2017 which will take place at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) from July 7 to 22.

Vice-Chancellor of UniMAP, Datuk Prof. Dr. Zul Azhar Zahid Jamal said the UniMAP contingent sent 10 participations for Sports, Tenpin Bowling, Sepak Takraw, Tennis, 15-a-side Rugby, Volleyball, Taekwondo, Karate Do, Basketball and Handball.

"Last year, we failed to win any gold medals and were only satisfied with six silver and five bronze for the woodball and karate-do events. With this tidy preparation made this year, we hope the events that we aim will be able to contribute gold medals to the UniMAP contingent.

"Among the events that we aim for gold are tennis, sports, taekwando, and basketball, I hope with this target, athletes will work hard to achieve the target," he said during the UniMAP Contingent Flag Handover Ceremony at PFI 2 Seminar Room, UniMAP Campus, here yesterday.

Also present were Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Student Affairs and Alumni of UniMAP Prof. Madya Dr. Mohd Fo'ad Sakdan and UniMAP Sports Center Director, Suhizaz Sudin.

He hoped athletes would perform well and make MASUM 2017 a platform in producing UniMAP athletes with potential to be featured internationally. "It's the spirit that needs to be fostered, not just contesting as a mere university representative, but most importantly competing for qualifying in the national team and will bring greater challenges at regional and international levels such as the SEA Games, the Asian Games, the Commonwealth Games And the Olympic Games, "he said.
