BILD Ozean Makes SMK DERMA Proud

The intention of sharing ocean’s beauty with the less fortunate has made three students from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Derma the overall champion (Best Of The Best) for Perlis Makers Day 2017.

The product, named Bild Ozean or the ocean image, is the invention of Shautul Wafie Arizal, 13, Nur Wafaa Aqilah Mohd Ridzuan, 14 and Nur Hidayatul Akma Badri 14 and it allows ocean images to be recorded using a camera placed on the device.

The group leader, Shautul Wafie Arizal said that the idea of ​​creating such product was inspired by his own passion for the view of the sea.

"The idea was then presented to mentors from the University of Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) and they have agreed to assist the invention of this product as a medium to share the beauty of marine life images with the less fortunate.

"We are very grateful to our teachers and mentors for their assistance which contributed to  our product being successful today," he added when interviewed after the Prize Giving Ceremony for the 2017 Perlis Makers Day, here recently. Prizes were given by the Perlis Domestic Trade and Consumerism Exco, Asmaiza Ahmad.

The Dean for UniMAP Research Management and Innovation, Prof. Dr. Syed Alwee Aljunid Syed Junid and the Dean for the School of Computer and Communication UniMAP were also present during the ceremony.

Perlis Makers Day 2017 were jointly organized by School of Computer and Communication UniMAP, 1M4U, the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation, UniMAP Nano Electronic Engineering Institute and Chumbaka Sdn. Bhd.

The competition is organized specifically for form one to form four students highlighting their ideas as an initiative to promote education in the subject of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) among younger generation.

Perlis Makers Day was participated by 8 schools in Perlis involving 128 members representing 32 groups. The competition is divided into several categories, namely food and agriculture, automotive / mobility, health, home and shelter, heavy equipment and machinery and retail.

The winner of this competition will represent Perlis to the National Makers Day which will be held in Kuala Lumpur on early August.
