KKTAG Triumphed In FESTKOL 2018

Pauh Putra, April 23 - Tan Sri Aisyah Ghani Residential College (KKTAG), Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) was crowned as champion in the Culture Festival between Residential Colleges (FESTKOL) 2018 which was held on April 19, 20 and 22.

Tan Sri Aisyah Ghani Residential College team was announced as the winner for both Boria and  Dikir Barat competition during the closing ceremony of FESTKOL 2018 at the Dewan Ilmu, here.

Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic & International) Prof. Ir. Dr. Rezuwan Kamaruddin officiated the closing ceremony of FESTKOL 2018 organized by the Cultural and Recreational Unit  in collaboration with the Residential College Council (MPKK) of Tun Abdul Razak Residential College (PFi2).

He said although UniMAP is an engineering university, it did not stop the university students to be active  in arts and cultural activities.

"I hope in the future, more categories will be introduced to give opportunities to the different ethics in UniMAP to showcase their culture alongside with the existing categories in this competition.

The aim of FESTKOL is to expose the culture of different ethnics  in this country to both local and international students," he added in his inaugural speech.

Also present were Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research & Innovation) Prof. Dr. Uda Hashim, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Foad Sakdan, Director of UKR, Mohd Izwan Izhar Haris and principals of residential colleges.

Meanwhile, KKTAG Principal, Ismail Ibrahim expressed his appreciation to the joint commitments of KKTAG residents which lead them to the success.

He added, it was interesting when KKTAG’s Boria team gained the attention of the jury when the culture which was originated from Penang was handled by the tekong from Sarawak.

"Moreover, the participation of the KKTAG team in FESTKOL 2018 turned out to be more special as the team received unwavering support from the Kelantan Graduates Association (HIMSAK), Terengganu Graduates Association (PERMATA), Persatuan Siswa Darul Aman (ANSAR), Gerakan Mahasiswa Johor (GEMA’J) and Persatuan Anak Sarawak Semenanjung (PASS)," he said when met after the ceremony.

Furthermore, he added that the result of their collaboration with the Residential College  Council (MPKK)  regardless of their race or ethnic origin has been a source of motivation for the team to be the winner of  the FESTKOL 2018.

FESTKOL 2018 is organized for the first time primarily to polish UniMAP students’ talent and prepare them to compete in the Malaysian Universities Cultural Festival (FEStKUM) in the future. The main organisers of FEStKUM are Malaysian Universities Cultural Council (MAKUM) and One World Culture.

In addition, three categories were contested in FESTKOL 2018, namely Boria, Nasyid and Dikir Barat involving the participation of six UniMAP residential colleges.

On the other hand, the Pauh Putra Residential College team won the Nasyid competition.
