The Female Researchers of UniMAP Continue To Strive In Excellence At The 2018 Euroinvent In Romania

Kangar,19th May – The female researchers of Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) continue to strive in excellence when they dominated the gold medal at an international innovation exhibition called ‘Europian Fair of Creativity and Innovation (EUROINVENT 2018)’ in Iasi, Romania.

They are Assoc Prof Dr Noorhafiza Muhammad through her research ‘Potato Starch Nano-Composites As An Alternative Materials for Coronary Stent Applications’ which also received the Best Female Researcher Award from EUROINVENT and the Korean Special Award, and Dr Zarina Yahya with her research entitled ‘Geopolymer Underwater Concrete in Marine Construction’.

Another female researcher from UniMAP who won the gold medal was Liyana Jamaludin through her research ‘Novel Multipurpose Geopolymer Coating for High Temperature Applications.’

UniMAP’s head delegate, the manager of Geopolimer and Green Technology Excellence Center (CEGeoGTech), Assoc Prof Dr Mohd Mustafa Al Bakri Abdullah said that apart from the three female researchers, another UniMAP researcher, Dr Mohd Fathullah Ghazli, also won the gold medal and the Thai Special Award with his research, ‘New Discovery of Sm3 + in Reducing Cost for Red Phosphor in White LED Applications’. According to him, the achievement was meaningful to them as the participants of EUROINVENT 2018 consist of more than 500 researchers from over 20 countries which provide a great competition at the exhibition.

“Even better, the female researchers of UniMAP are able to continue their excellence at the 2018 EUROINVENT as in previous years at the same exhibition,” he said. He also received the Excellence Innovation Award (the Prestigious Activity in The Field of Innovation & Invention) from Politechnica University of Bucharest Romania.

EUROINVENT 2018 started on May 17th and was officially launched by the Romanian Minister of Research and Innovation, Nicolae Burnette. 

Earlier, Dr Mohd Mustafa and a CEGeoGTech lecturer, Dr Mohd Arif Anuar Mohd Salleh were invited as visiting lecturers at Georghe Asachi Technical University of Iasi, Romania.

Several topics were shared with the university’s postgraduate students such as "Current Geopolymer Research" by Dr Mohd Mustafa and "Leadfree Solder Materials" by Dr Mohd Arif, which was part of ERASMUS' activities.

ERASMUS is a program under the European Union for education, training, youth and sports. It will last for seven years from 2014 to 2020, and UniMAP managed to obtain the program for four years.
