87 UniMAP participants join Varsity Carnival (IMT-GT)

Arau, 23 July – Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) sent 87 participants to the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) Varsity Carnival which is being held from 20 to 26 July 2018, here at Universiti Teknologi MARA Perlis Branch.

According to UniMAP Deputy Vice-Chancellor Prof. Madya Dr. Mohd Fo'ad Sakdan, participants consisting of 64 students and 23 officers were divided into three activity categories, namely sports, culture and seminar.

“There are seven sporting events being run, which are football, badminton, basketball, volleyball (women), and tennis.”

“Meanwhile, 15 students participated in the culture category and 3 students participated in the seminar,” he said during the Flag Handover Ceremony which was held at Tun Abdul Razak Residential College (PFI2), UniMAP Pauh Putra.

He said that all students who participate should do their utmost best in their respective segments and as ambassadors of the university, they should be more disciplined and adhere to all the rules.

“In fact, they need to keep in mind that their contribution is valuable to the university.

“Build a network of friends with participants from other universities, especially from Thailand and Indonesia,” he said.

The Varsity Carnival IMT-GT involves three countries, namely Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia, which are represented by universities that are members of IMT-GT.

“There are 11 universities representing their respective countries. Indonesia is represented by Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), Institut Teknologi Medan (ITM), Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) dan Universitas Negeri Medan (UNIMED).

“While Thailand is represented by Prince of Songkhla University (PSU), Thaksin University (TSU), Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya (RMUTSV) and Walailak University (WU),” he said.

Malaysia is presently being represented at the IMT-GT by Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Perlis Branch, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and UniMAP.
