43rd SUKUM Championship: UniMAP is The 11th Time Defending Champion

Kuantan, 18 Ogos - The contingent of Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) was crowned the overall champion of the 43rd SUKUM Championship while remains the defending champion for the 11th time. UniMAP won the overall championship at Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) after winning 23 gold medals, 9 silver medals and 19 bronze medals in seventeen sports events.


Among the UniMAP's outstanding achievements are in the athletics, bowling, golf, women volleyball, football (senior category) and cycling. Dato’ Prof Dr Zul Azhar Zahid Jamal, the Vice Chancellor of UniMAP said that a team mentoring system is among the secrets of UniMAP's success.

"The mentors who are also the heads of department in UniMAP are responsible to support, advice and inspire their respective teams.”

"This approach proves that the administration always encourages staff to participate in sports events," he said when contacted.

Meanwhile, UniMAP's senior football team continues to excel after defeating Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) with four goals yesterday at the stadium of Sekolah Sukan Pahang.

Anas Shahrom scored the first goal in the fourth minute followed by the second and the third goals by Rosmaidi in the 10th and 26th minute respectively. The fourth goal by Faizal Zahir was in the 48th minute.

UniMAP's 206 contingents comprise athletes, coaches and officers joining the 43rd SUKUM Championship which was also participated by 20 public universities.
