UniMAP forms Sports Engineering Excellence Centre
PAUH PUTRA, 11 October – Various sports development programs have been organized by the government in the effort to produce world-class athletes.
In this regard, Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) is committed to assist the country in making the venture a reality.
The manager of UniMAP Sports Engineering Research Center (SERC), Associate Professor Mazelan Abdul Hamid said that the SERC will implement research and development programs related to sports advancement in solving issues and matters related to sports development.
"As an engineering university, UniMAP offers expertise in Science and Engineering in solving sports-related problems. Sports is an industry of a great value and has started to grow rapidly in our country and UniMAP does not want to miss it," he said recently.
He also added that research in sports engineering requires expertise in various related fields such as biomechanics, sensor technology, communication and more.
"UniMAP has expertise in various fields of engineering and it can be applied in research and development such as athlete performance measurement systems, designs for sports equipment and safety in sports, as well as analysis of sports performance.”
“From that we are able to develop sports coaching programs for the improvement of athlete skills as used in developed countries," Mazelan said.
He added that SERC has several plans to be carried out throughout 2018 and hopes to work with Persatuan Sukan Kebangsaan (PSK), Majlis Olimpik Malaysia (MOM), Institut Sukan Negara (ISN), and also Majlis Sukan Negeri (MSN).
SERC was launched by UniMAP vice-chancellor, Datuk Prof. Dr. Zul Azhar Zahir Jamal in conjunction with the UniMAP 2017 Research and Excellence Awards Ceremony recently.
