KANGAR, 12 December – Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) and Syarikat Motosikal dan Enjin Nasional Sdn. Bhd (Modenas) will market the retro style motorcycles produced by the engineering university.
The motorcycle was named Seri Perlis (SP) and was produced by the UniMAP students and assisted by the engineers from Modenas.
The director of Motorsports Technology Research Unit (MoTECH) UniMAP, Prof Madya Dr. Shahriman Abu Bakar said, Modenas is very helpful in producing the motorcycle.
“We have been working with Modenas since 2014 and it is even more vibrant after the establishment of the UniMAP Research Center - Modenas last year.”
"Through this research center, we are able to train and provide direct exposure to the students and produce the highest possible impact on the industry," he said when contacted recently.
He added that the establishment of the UniMAP Research Center-Modenas will not only reduce the cost of research but would also result in higher technology, in line with the National Automotive Policy to produce high-tech vehicles at low cost.
The motorcycle also attracted the attention of the Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad and he agreed to see the motorcyclist himself at the Prime Minister's office in Putrajaya recently, said Dr. Shahriman.
The Education Minister, Dr. Mazlee Malik, Chairman of the UniMAP Board of Directors, Datuk Prof. Emeritus Dr. Kamarudin Hussin and Chief Executive Officer of Modenas, Amirudin Abd Kadir were also present during the event.

It produces 14.8 horsepower at 8,000 RPM and 16.2 Nm at 7,500 RPM.
