UniMAP to offer eight academic programmes at TIBA University Egypt
Kangar, 15 February – Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) will be offering eight academic programmes at TIBA University, a new university managed by Thebes Integrated Institutes, Egypt.
The course offerings came about from the discussions between UniMAP, headed by UniMAP Vice Chancellor Dato’ Prof Dr Zul Azhar Zahid Jamal, and President of TIBA University Prof Seddik Afifi during an academic visit to UniMAP which took place from the 10th to the 14th of February.
Dr Zul Azhar said that during the visit the two parties signed a memorandum of understanding and also toured the TIBA University campus site.
He explained that this collaborative programme is most important to and very impactful for UniMAP, in line with the Education Minister's recommendation to internationalise Malaysian university programmes.
“This cooperation coincides with this and would uplift the UniMAP name in the international arena. UniMAP will give utmost commitment to ensure this endeavour bears enormous success for both parties,” he announced.
Also present were UniMAP Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic & International) Prof Ir Dr Rezuwan Kamarudin, TIBA University Vice President Prof Ahmed Seddik, UniMAP Dean of Academic Management Prof Madya Ir Dr Anuar Mat Safar and the Dean of UniMAP School of Business and Technopreneurship (PPIPT) Dr Tunku Salha Tunku Ahmad.
Dr Zul Azhar explained that the cooperative relationship between UniMAP and Thebes Integrated Institutes Egypt which pioneered private higher education in Egypt started in 2015. In 2017, Nahda University, an institution owned by Thebes Integrated Institutes, sent 12 students to attend a two-week mobility programme at UniMAP.
“Furthermore, in December 2017, five UniMAP senior lecturers were appointed by Nahda University as visiting lecturers and taught there for three weeks.
“The collaboration between UniMAP and Thebes Integrated Institutes will go on with a series of discussions to implement academic cooperation by offering UniMAP academic programmes at TIBA University,” he said.
Meanwhile, Prof Seddik said that he was pleased with the collaboration with UniMAP and is impressed with the sterling education system in Malaysia, and hopes that Egyptian education will advance and improve from the cooperation.
“The cooperation will provide a many opportunities to Malaysians and Egyptians in various aspects especially in higher education fields and we are eager to learn from Malaysia's experiences.
“We also have high hopes of even greater successes in the future by invigorating our relationship through the signed agreement,” he said.
In the agreement, TIBA University will be set up infrastructure, facilities and teaching staff while UniMAP will contribute with regards to academic, curriculum, quality assurance and graduation certification.
The eight programmes to be offered are Bachelor's Degree in Mechatronic Engineering, Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering, Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Bachelor's Degree in Business (Engineering Entrepreneurship), Master of Science (Research) and Doctor of Philosophy (Research).
