Putrajaya, 8 March – The Centre of Excellence Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) research team of HAAS Solution Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) won the third place at the National Parcel Drone Competition yesterday.

The team was led by Prof Dr Hazry Desa (Director), En. Zambri Ibrahim (Leader - GCS & Mission Planner), En Khairi Hazir (Pilot), En Abd Mu'iz (Co-pilot/Video Observer) and En Azmie (Technical) and managed to score a trophy and a cash prize of RM7,000.

The prize was presented by the Minister of Communications and Multimedia, Gobind Singh Deo at the Putrajaya Water Sports Complex.

Also present during the ceremony was Syed Md Najib Syed Md Noor, the Chief Executive Officer of Pos Malaysia Group.

The Parcel Drone Competition was organised by Pos Malaysia Berhad (Pos Malaysia) in collaboration with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC). The competition saw the involvement of 40 participants from a number of institutions of higher learning and lasted for two days.

The participants were given two chances to fly a drone with a two-kilogram parcel and they had to fly it two miles across Tasik Putrajaya and return to the launch site within the fastest time.

Gobind said the program was in line with the ministry's wishes in the Strategic Plan of the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia 2019-2023 to drive the digital economy, to promote the use of high technology, and to ensure the delivery of quality services to the people.

"With this programme, we can also explore potential local talents in the field of UAV, and they should be given the necessary support and recognition so that they can move forward to a higher level in the future."
