UniMAP Researcher Receive Endeavour Leadership Australia Research Fellowship Award 2019

KANGAR, March 12 – A researcher from Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) School of Materials Engineering Assoc Prof Dr. Ong Hui Lin was selected as the recipient of the Endeavour Leadership Australia Cheung Kong Research Fellowship Award 2019.

UniMAP Vice Chancellor Dato 'Prof. Dr. Zul Azhar Zahid Jamal said the award would allow Dr. Ong to undergo a short-term attachment program at Deakin University, Geelong, Australia which would enable the researcher to carry out his research work.

According to him, the award sponsored by the Australian Department of Education and Training in collaboration with Cheung Kong Infrastructure (Holdings) Limited aims to promote the exchange of knowledge between researchers and students from Australia and other Asian countries.

"I was informed that Dr. Ong is one of the six researchers selected for the unique programme this year. This success indirectly boosts UniMAP's visibility in the arena of international research.

"Indeed, as a university that supports the aspirations of national education, UniMAP is trying to evolve from a knowledge delivery centre to a diversified institution including sharing research with third parties, and this achievement proves UniMAP is now on the right track," he said in a statement here today.

According to Dr. Zul Azhar, in 2018, nearly 30 UniMAP academic staff members participated in attachment programmes at a number of international institutions in Prague, Taiwan, Japan, the United Kingdom, Greece, Poland, Hungary, Korea and France.

In the meantime, Dr. Ong, who is also the first recipient from UniMAP conferred the Fellowship Award for Women in Science from L'Oreal Malaysia, said this was not a success of individuals but a success for the organisation as a whole.

"I am very grateful to the Vice Chancellor who always provides us with the space and opportunity for UniMAP staff and researchers to conduct research without any hindrances and at the same time expanding our network of partnerships with outsiders.

"This is important because in the field of research, as networking with international institutions will enhance the reputation of the research carried out as well as highlight the institution's visibility in research and innovation," she said.
