UniMAP Employees Win Men's Graded Malaysian International Open Bowling Tournament
Kangar, 6th May – Senior Cultural Officer of Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), Mohd. Zul Fauzi Mohamed Sawal, stole the spotlight by winning the Men's Graded category at the 40th Malaysian International Open Bowling Tournament at Sunway Mega Lanes.
Mohd. Zul Fauzi, a UniMAP’s bowling athlete, defeated more than 500 participants from around the world by scoring 1679 points, placing Muhammad Azri Azni in second place with 1611 and Mat Salleh Jalani in third with 1606.
“This was quite a meaningful achievement for me after a series of unsuccessful tournaments. Hopefully this will lead to more opportunities and further successes.
“It is a bit of a burden as the game relies fully on the ability to minimise errors, especially overseas players participating, however upon maintaining consistency of performance during the game, we ultimately prevailed,” he said.
Mohd. Zul Fauzi received a cash prize of RM15,000 and a trophy. Another UniMAP staff, Nurakmal Ramli who participated in the same category came in 33rd place.
Meanwhile, UniMAP Vice Chancellor Dato' Prof. Dr. Zul Azhar Zahid Jamal said that the tournament was also an avenue for the two players to warm up as they will be representing UniMAP at the Statutory Bodies Sports Competition in Shah Alam this July.
“Mohd. Zul Fauzi and Nurakmal were among the UniMAP bowlers that we had expected to hold on to the gold medals won in the previous competition,” he said.
