UniMAP Grabs 10 Gold in ITEX 2019

KANGAR, May 6 – Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) achieved complete victory by winning 10 gold and 10 silver medals in the International Invention, Innovation & Technology Exhibition (ITEX).
UniMAP Vice Chancellor Dato' Prof Dr Zul Azhar Zahid Jamal said that UniMAP’s success and achievements gained earlier this year would be the encouragement booster for other researchers to produce more impactful products.


“This year, we identified more potential products to be contested, compared to last year when we only sent 16 products,” he said in a statement.
Among UniMAP’s research products that won gold medals were the Portable Biomass Gasification For Electricity Generation (Ir. Dr. Mohamad Shaiful Ashrul Ishak), Smart Online Partial Discharge Monitoring System For High Voltage Distribution Line (Dr Mohamad Nur Khairul Hafizi Rohani), Amicatile (Dr. Liew Yun Ming), UDEM: Ultimate Dengue Fever Eradication Membrane Using Herbal Technology (Dr. Ragunathan Santiagoo), Seri Perlis Motorcycle (Prof. Madya Dr. Shahriman Abu Bakar) and High Strength PB-Free Composite Interconnects For Next Generation Electric Vehicle Power Modules (Dr. Mohd Arif Anuar Mohd Salleh).

Four other products that won gold were the ESL Food Poisoning Rapid Detector (Prof. Dr. Uda Hashim), Magnetite-Hydroxyapatite Nanoparticles Functionalized With Catechin For Cancer Treatment (Prof. Madya Dr. Midhat Nabil Ahmad Salimi), In-House Fabricated Non-Invasive Cervical Cancer Detection Nano Lab-On-Chip (Dr. Nor Azizah Parmin) and Smart Pharmaceutical Temperature Monitoring System VDSM 1.2 (Siti Khodijah Mazalan).

Additionally, four products received special local and international awards. The Smart Online Partial Discharge Monitoring System For High Voltage Distribution Line earned the award of Highly Innovative Unique Foundation from Arab Saudi, High Strength PB-Free Composite Interconnects For Next Generation Electric Vehicle Power Modules and Visible Light Communication Based On Dual Diffuser Modulation (DDM) For Intelligent Transportation Application (Indonesian Invention And Innovation Promotion Association (INNOPA) and also In-House Fabricated Non-Invasive Cervical Cancer Detection Nano Lab-On-Chip (Best Invention For Women).

ITEX 2019, initiated by Malaysian Invention and Design Society (MINDS), brought together more than 1,000 inventions from 20 countries, competing in 15 categories.
