UniMAP NEW Vice Chancellor: PROF. DR. R. BADLISHAH

Kangar – Former Deputy Vice Chancellor of Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA), Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. R. Badlishah Ahmad has been appointed the new Vice Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) replacing Dato' Prof. Dr. Zul Azhar Zahid Jamal whose term ended on May 14, 2019.

Prof. Badlishah’s appointment is a homecoming of sorts as he was one of the first employees to join UniMAP as Dean of its School of Computer and Communication Engineering.

 

He became the third Vice Chancellor of UniMAP and will serve for the next three years from 15th May 2019 until 14th May 2022.

His received his appointment letter from the Minister of Education Dr. Maszlee Malik in accordance with the provisions of Section 12 (1) of the Constitution of Universiti Malaysia Perlis.

Chairman of the UniMAP Board Datuk Prof. Emeritus Dr. Kamarudin Hussin said he believed that with Prof. Badlishah's excellent qualification and extensive experience in engineering and administration of his previous university, he would be able to boost UniMAP to a higher level.

UniMAP is proud to be able to continue to produce a generation of authoritative leaders like him and it is our hope that he would be able to use his full expertise to run UniMAP.

“Also, we would like to express our deepest appreciation to Dato' Zul Azhar who contributed so much to UniMAP's success especially when UniMAP earned the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) rating - Five Stars for the QS Stars Audit in the period of 2019-2021.

“In addition, UniMAP has also been listed in 500 best universities through QS World University Ranking by Subject for Engineering and Technology in 2017,” he said.

Dato' Zul Azhar congratulated Prof. Badlishah on his appointment and called on UniMAP employees to continue to provide support and cooperation to the new Vice Chancellor to ensure that the culture of excellence is maintained at the university.

“As a person who was involved with the administration at UniMAP early on, I felt that it was not difficult for him to continue the administrative legacy of this university and would certainly receive good cooperation from the university community.

“I’m also confident his background in computer engineering will be of great benefit to the UniMAP 2025 Strategic Plan which is largely based on computer technology and networking,” he said.
