Over 700 Visit the Jom Masuk UniMAP Special Category Programme
Kangar, 15 August – Over 700 student candidates visited the Jom Masuk Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) Special Category promotional counter which was held in Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, Kuala Lumpur and Perlis since 12 August.
According to UniMAP Vice Chancellor Brig. Jen. Datuk Prof. Dr. Kamarudin Hussin, the attendance of visitors consisting of students and their guardians is expected to increase in the final series of promotions in Selangor on the 17th today.
“Alhamdulillah, reception among visitors has been very encouraging. Since yesterday, almost 200 students visited the lobby of the Federal Building in Kg. Raja, Besut and the Terengganu Foundation Office in Kuala Terengganu to submit their applications.
“Today's promotion will be a cooperation between UniMAP and the Terengganu Foundation, to be attended by the Political Secretary of the YAB Chief Minister of Terengganu Dr. Rozailan Mamat who is also the former Director of the UniMAP Centre for Industrial and Government Agencies Collaboration,” he said in a statement today.
The Jom Masuk UniMAP Special Category Programme was introduced especially to help students from underprivileged families with a monthly household income of less than RM3,000 to enable them to fulfil a minimum requirement for enrolment in courses offered by UniMAP.
Besides the monthly income of under RM3000, other criteria for those who qualify to apply in the Jom Masuk UniMAP programme also include students who are or have parents/guardians who are disabled persons (OKU), orphans or cared for by a single parent.
Dr. Kamarudin said that the programme was in line with the government's wishes to encourage Public Universities (UA) to travel to rural areas to help children there in the field of education.
He said that the programme was employed to convey the government's aspirations in giving a second chance and helping those unable to afford to continue their education.
“These candidates will undergo a filtering process and receive a reply in two weeks. Candidates who are selected in the special category will be able to register at UniMAP in the middle of September,” he informed further.
