UniMAP CEGeoGTech Collaborates with Institute in Poland

Kangar, Oct. 14 - The Centre of Excellence for Geopolimer and Green Technology (CEGeoGTech) Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) strides in academic and research through collaborative efforts with academic institutions in Poland.

CEGeoGTech collaboration with the Institute of Electronic Materials Technology (ITME) in Warsaw Poland was sealed through a letter of intent to increase the research findings and impact in the field of green technology ceramic and geopolymer conducted by CEGeoGTech.

UniMAP CEGeoGTech was represented by its Manager, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd. Mustafa al-Bakri Abdullah on behalf of the Vice Chancellor of UniMAP, Brig. Gen. Datuk Prof. Emeritus Dr. Kamarudin Hussin while ITME was represented by its Director for Research and Development, Prof. Zenon Godziejewski.

The event was witnessed by ITME scientists from the Department of Ceramics, Dr. Anna Wajler and Prof. Lech Dobrazanski, Director of the UniMAP Centre for Industrial and GovernmentalCollaboration (CIGC), Dr. Mukhzeer Mohamad Shahimin and Director of UniMAP Academic Accreditation Unit , Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ir. Anuar Mat Safar.

According to Dr. Mohd. Mustafa, the decision to collaborate with ITME was made due to their achievement and reputation in the field of ceramic research with the combination of electronic elements.

"In order to meet the target of generating impact research, CEGeoGTech as a relatively new center of excellence should develop a network of collaborations with leading research institutions in the world in order to discover the latest technological research other than assistance in terms of income generation.
"ITME is a premier research center in Poland which has world-class expertise of 150 scientists and research conducted by the institute are focused through its 16 departments. These features has caught the CEGeoGTech interest," he said in a statement released here today.

According to Dr. Mustafa, ITME, which was established in 1979, only received about 20 percent allocation from the government while the remaining allocation were obtained through local and international research grants especially from countries in the European Union (EU).

He said that UniMAP is now absolutely determined to improve collaboration and acquisition of grants from countries in the EU after receiving the validation that entitled UniMAP among the three public universities (UA) in Malaysia that can apply for grants from the EU.

“Hasil kerjasama yang termeterai hari ini, ITME bersetuju membantu CEGeoGTech dalam apa sahaja bidang kajian dan penyelidikan berasaskan bahan termaju dan memberi ruang untuk penggunaan alatan secara bersama.
"With the partnership sealed today, ITME has agreed to assist CEGeoGTech in research based on of advanced materials and make room for the joined use of equipments.

"Besides, the ITME research system conducting transformation of basic research to product development in small and medium scale has caught our interest for this collaboration," he said.

Dr. Mohd. Mustafa, who also represented the Malaysian Research and Innovation Society (MyRIS) also signed a cooperation agreement with the Association of Polish Inventors and Rationalizers (SPWIR) to open up more space for participation in exhibitions and international invention competition in EU countries.

SPWIR was represented by its President, Prof. Michael Szota.
