UniMAP Establish Pensioners Club

Kangar, October 19 - Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) should set up a pensioners club to guard the welfare of of its staff apart from appreciating their contributions.

UniMAP Vice-Chancellor, Brig. General Datuk Prof. Emeritus Dr. Kamarudin Hussin suggested that a club should be established to appreciate the sacrifices made by UniMAP pensioners to the university.

"If we do not care about the situation of pensioners, it is as if we have failed to recognize their contribution towards UniMAP", he said in the 2015 UniMAP Retirement Award Ceremony  - Jasamu dikenang held at the Hotel Seri Malaysia, recently.

Datuk Kamarudin said that these staff once served  UniMAP and when they retire the family relationships between staff should not dissapear.

"Even if they had retired, I do not want the relationship among UniMAP staff to end and we should be aware of their condition in everyday life.

"This is because pensioners have lost their source of income so by being aware of their condition, there might just be something that we can help them with," he said.

Datuk Kamarudin is confident that the establishment of the club which will be led by the UniMAP Registry Department will ensure the smooth operation of the club.

"The Registry Department will be responsible for coordinating the assistance that can be distributed to UniMAP pensioners through the club," he said.

In the event, five pensioners either by optional or compulsory retirement were celebrated.

They are Prof. Dr. Ismail Daut, (former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) who opted for retirement after being a Member of Parliament for Merbok; Prof. Dr. Sazali Yaacob (former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International).

Others are Azmi Ahamad (former Chief Assistant Registrar, Registry Department) compulsory retirement before re-elected via contract; Shahadah Ahmad (that will retire from her post as a University Lecturer in the School of Computer and Communication Engineering from November 2015); and Datuk Kamarudin himself (compusory retirement on 10 February, before being re-elected via contract to continue to lead UniMAP).
